Had this again, by coincidence, from a different source. this time from 750ml and it had all the goodness of the magnum yet interestingly a little brighter/fresher

From mag. Energetic and defined if perhaps a bit weighty, but a nice 13. Maintained itself much of the night, but if anything it got a little heavier….hopefully not a sign of looming premox. only vague hints of mint

Seventeenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Alongside a Moreau 2011-2013 Bâtard-Montrachet vertical. Layered and complex, much like the Moreau 2013, but this is slightly less rich, slightly brighter and more energetic. This also kept unfolding, showing more power and expression with more air. Certainly upside from here.

The other white of the night I like the most. Pale yellow, rich nose and complex palate with long after taste. It could be served so well if left 2 hours in bottle.

A Multi Birthday Celebration (Tocco - Winnetka IL): In 04/08/13 vertical. Absolutely sensational nose with a broad array of lush fruit notes supported with a sweet teaser (botrytis?). Lots here to enjoy, but tonight this did not come across as perfectly harmonious. Slightly tropical with apple, pear and lemon curd flavors, this came across as more stern in the middle, then riper on the finish. Again, lots here to enjoy, and I think there is substantial upside to this wine, but tonight it was more about potential (93+ points) than pure pleasure in the glass.

Very impressive, and unusual, example of Ramonet Batard. This had such tropical fruit, passionfruit and pineapple, but was paradoxically dry. No hint of flabbiness, this was all business with terrific minerality. And yet the tropical notes were unmistakable. This is fabulous wine, and I'd recommend drinking sooner than later to enjoy in this perfect phase.

From mag. Some of the 2013 whites are drinking so well, and this Ramonet Batard was no exception. Someone commented initially “it’s leaping out of the glass”. And it was. Beautiful wine, in a beautiful space, and happy to own this and many other 13’s.

This would have been a delightful wine, if it hadn’t followed the stellar ’10. There is crackling acidity here, and it wasn’t as balanced as the ’10. I would expect great things from this wine in 2-3 years.

Slow oxed for 5 hours before serving. Nose exploded almond, spearmint, oaka and yellow fruit. Initially a bit ripe but the acidity bursted out in the glass after 20 mins. A good early drinking Ramonet batard. Good balance between richness and elegance. The oak will still need time to integrate.

Has the Ramonet spearmint thing happening on the nose. There’s sappy white peach fruit and loads of minerality. It is rich and powerful, with outstanding volume and a finish that is clear, bright and extremely persistent.

Roumier Bonnes Mares / Amoureuses Dinner (Formento's - Chicago IL): Served alongside the 2013 Chassagne 1er Cru Ruchottes, both opened 30 minutes before serving. This started out almost as backward and reserved as the Ruchottes was fun and forward. 30 minutes in glass helped a lot, and this was most alluring many hours later. Apple, pear and poached pear aromas with an increasing mint and spice note coming across with more air.

Bright, light yellow. Matchstick reduction, peach, and anise on the nose. Supple mouthfeel, evident glycerol, with flavors of orchard fruit and subtle oak. The 2013 Bâtard-Montrachet impresses for its lightweight purity.

This has some aniseed and creamy orchard fruits. It is deeper and more layered than the BBM and has a high glycerol feel. There's outstanding rocky detail just below the flesh.

Ramonet in Alsace (Domaine Albert Mann in Wettolsheim): What opulence and density combined in a bottle. I was not taking careful notes, but there was much going on here: layers of flavor, freshness, and a full body leading to a lingering finish. Superb wine!

Ficofi. Excellent wine. Preferred to 2011 alongside. Expressive stone fruit on nose, well balanced with nice structure as well as length. Terrific white Burgundy.

Gorgeous bottle with the hallmarks of 2013 - old school white burgundy - with still ripe/fresh fruit. In the middle of a peak window.

Some Wine Tasted at the Acker La Paulée Auction (Maybourne Hotel - Beverly Hills CA): Tasted at auction. Rich and nuanced, this has come together into a magically (seemingly) ripe wine coming from this lean vintage. Great now, a step up from the great 2013 Ruchottes.

Dinners around the HDH Auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Chicago IL): Minty and spicy with ripe apple aromas, slight tropical hints. Surprisingly fleshy, very fun, and nicely concentrated, just not as nuanced or complex vs my last bottle opened one year back.

The bottle tonight showed more ripeness. Rich and powerful but a bit fat and oily. Got the batard power but lacked finesse.

Sothebys. Terrific again, but perhaps too approachable and Chablis-like? Round, intense and grippy. Citrus rather than floral.
