  • Light garnet center with watery rim. Fragrant red fruits. Lighter weight, really a wisp of a wine today that reminded me of Alto Piemonte for its delicacy. Discretely sweet red fruit without any heat, some tobacco in the background, excellent acidity, a light sprinkling of soil, and just a little remaining tannin. Delightful, flowing, and very easy to enjoy now, but it has the balance to last several more years. Much better than the last time I had it a year ago when it was headier and felt more ripe and alcoholic.

  • Mon dieu, que c'est excellent!

I did not know anything about this wine before I opened it. It was clear, rested and ready, so I decanted. It had about 3oz of sediment laden juice left.

Not much nose, but tasted like Nebbiolo to me.
It had a distinct crunch and its color looked Barolo-esc.
Nose started to show of roses and tars, and the palate held stars that lingered on my mouth for a long time. It was elegant. It had power. There were herbs and fine cakes with cherries, raspberries and some tart of rhubarb and lime. Excellent texture with levity and then the crunchy tars holding it all down to my tongue. Delightful!

Perfect for pairing with pan seared lamb t-bone.

Great energy, superb crunch. Love this and could drink this every night.

    Kermit Lynch site says:
    Vino Rosso “Laboro Disobedient”:
    • Fermented for 25 to 30 days in Slavonian oak
    • A declassified Riserva, aged in large, old, Slavonian oak barrels for five and a half years
    • Aged in bottle for 12 months before release

I bought this from Rare Wine Company, and wow, so glad that I did. Shoulda bought more bottles.

  • Decanted 3 hours in advance. Clear red. Exuberant, heady aromatics of ripe cherry. Big, full, and glycerine. Forward red fruit and herbs with some bark lurking underneath. Not overly alcoholic as the nose might suggest. Hardly the final word in Nebbiolo complexity, but a strong effort from this warm vintage that is in a good drinking window.

  • 5th of 6, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, pitched against an Elena Ascheri 10, it revealed to its disadvantage a leaner, edgier mouthfeel with less as yet going on, may be that it has closed down a little, but felt like harder work than last bottle, hopefully upside, no rush. G+ (15.5).

  • Garnet core, brick red rim. A smart lifted, rose bud bouquet, fragrant; soft red fruits, supple tannins, an attractive bite; palate cleansing grip on the extended finish. Drink now & next 10 years.
(Corked pull 6+ hours before, not decanted).

  • 1 hour decant then drunk over three hours with and without food. Pale colour. Fragrant nose but not intense. Quite withdrawn and acidity poking out without much fruit. Sharp elbows. Much better with roast pork belly which softened the edges. Improved after dinner and started to open up. Suggests needs more time.

  • 4th of 6, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, showing more fruit than last bottle, still tight, upside. VGI (17).

  • 3rd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, less again to it and with sharpish edge, a phase? VG (16).

  • 2nd of 6, opened 80 minutes, perfect cork and level, less to it than last December's bottle, nice enough but essentially simple fruit flavours with attractive core, upside possible. VG+ (16.5).

  • Decanted and tasted, small cloud of sediment at the bottom after standing for weeks. Pale ruby with slight bricking typical for Nebbiolo; medium intensity aromatics with rose, red fruited, strawberry, a bit of black licorice, slight mint; palate is medium bodied, deeper red fruits, approachable medium-plus tannins, medium acidity, midpalate a bit one-note though not thin; finish is medium length. Not a bad "barolo", though a bit muddled by the vintage and lacking the clarity and transparency of the top examples. I think ready to drink and enjoy now for what it is with little advantage to more time in the cellar. 90
3 hours decanted: integrates well, a bit more structured tannin, warmer styled fruits but still enjoyable if not particularly complex. Still 90.

  • Good but not spectacular. Drink or hold. 14%

  • 1st of 6, decanted an hour, perfect cork and level - dark, not dense, garnet, little development; flavour profile as in last note other than mint which I did not detect; excellent length and persistence with whack of fruit masking underlying considerable tannic structure, although drinkable with pleasure full maturity at least 5 years off. F (17.5).

  • An absolutely beguiling nose on the 2011 Disobedient. Distinctive rose oil, peppermint, Seville orange rind, creosote, and tangy red fruit wafts from the glass. Was let down a little by the palate presence after the enticing bouquet. Mostly sour cherry and tart red fruit with considerable tannic grip. I think this fans out a bit with 3-5 years age. This wine is a definite hold for now.......

  • Benefited from air as tannic hit on Open. Disappeared with 20-30mins in decanter. Classic barolo nose for me. Cloves. Sweet juicy fruits on the palate. Bright and full of life. Finishes with a hint of sour cherry.

  • Fruit fruits. Light and easy on the palate.

  • I bought this on the suggestion of a local wine store owner who asked if I liked Nebbiolo wines. I told him I did, but sometimes didn't have the patience to wait for them to enter their drinking window. He suggested this wine, which, according to him, was a full-on barolo that the winemaker failed to file the appropriate paperwork to get it classified as a barolo. Thus the 'disobedient' name and 'laboro' designation.

I like this wine. It is ready to go on opening, and has blackberry, violet, dusty rose and maybe some tar and even iodine(?) notes on the nose. It is medium bodied, balanced and has only moderate tannins and acidity. Finish is medium - maybe 20 seconds or so.

But it's a great wine to have in the cellar if on the spur of the moment a friend asks if you have any barolo. It opens up quickly and doesn't require the 'open in the morning and drink in the evening' treatment that some of the meditation-wine barolos seem to demand.

  • Decanted, very little sediment (only a small "cloud" at the bottom). Light clear ruby with just a hint of bricking; nose is aromatic, red fruit, strawberry, cherry, some roses, a hint of soy; palate is medium bodied with fleshy red fruit that gives it density, medium alcohol (14%) and well in check, high acid, supple youthful tannins that are much more approachable than expected; medium finish, more prominent slightly grippy tannins. This surpassed my expectations: approachable for a young "barolo", excellent fruit, nice density while being light, excellent balance of structure and fruit, and a great food wine. Any youthful oak is mild at best, and overall this gives a lot of enjoyment now with at least a decade or two ahead of it. Speaks of Monforte: a bit of density and complexity without the impenetrability of Serralunga. Drink my last bottle in 10 years. 92+
2 hours air: Not too different. This is certainly a richer styled Nebbiolo, not a light, elegant, ethereal styled Nebbiolo, which has its place and for that reason can come across as a bit more modern-styled.
3 hours after opening: Two of us didn't finish the bottle... it was more of a medium density wine with higher alcohol than I initially got from my first taste, and that made it a less drinkable wine than I like in the best barolos. May need time to integrate better and develop more lightness.
Day 2 (18 hours later): a little less aromatic, a bit more integrated on the nose; palate is largely unchanged, maybe a bit better integrated; medium finish. A hint of mocha or coffee on the nose.

  • Tremendous colour; soars from the glass, classic, finessed; supple start then intensifies, flows & expands; grippy finish. A serious wine yet provides real enjoyment. May age well.

  • Quick note from memory. This wine really stood out well among the handful 2001 Barolos we had that night. Fresh, bit fleshy but still elegant. Dark cherries, tobacco and some leather on the nose. Really nice balance and fine finish with long tannins. Obvious lift to it all. Really nice. 92-93p.

  • This is a fun wine. Barolo with a twist. Has a longish finish but not the weight & the tightness that comes with most Barolo's. Easy drinking and ready now.

  • Amazing "barolo" smelled wonderful in the glass, color was vibrant, beautiful, classic Barolo aromas; on the palate it was complex and well integrated, fruit, terroir, acidity; great wine!!

  • Tasting at Alessandro and Gian Natale Fantino (Monforte d'Alba, Piedmont, Italy): This wine is a bit of an oddity. It's essentially a de-classified Riserva the brothers release as a Vino da Tavola. Ruby red. The aromas here have more spice, less pronounced floral and jammier fruit than the '11 Barolo Cascina Dardi tasted side-by-side. The palate is also more round and fleshy, but the fruit remain fresh with good acidity. Suave tannins beneath the fruit. Outstanding stuff that will age. 94-96
