Bright scarlet color with a light amber edge. Cassis, red raspberry, blueberry, sweet lilies, iron and lead pencil. Still a higher alcohol presence, but the palate is showcasing some dried fruits and age. Very tasty and recommend drinking up in this window.

Good wine not great as I had expected for price. Brought from home cellar to Nevis cooler has been here for 2 years. Decanted 1.5 hours had with steaks with friends. We also had ‘09 Staglin which was much better and 1/3 the value.

Opened a 2012 Staglin and a 2006 Hundred Acres Ark with MK&K. By group consensus, the Staglin was the better wine. M called the Hundred Acres “aggressive.” Definitely bigger and more dense, the secondary flavors were buried beneath all of the big fruit. The Staglin offered more in a smaller package with balance and lively secondary notes. Don’t get me wrong, these are both excellent wines, but the edge goes to Staglin by a point or two. (The Hundred Acres received a 1 hour decant. The Staglin was opened at the same time but not poured. I’ve had several experiences where Staglin Cabernets have turned rough and tannic with too much air.)

Decant for thirty minutes. This is fabulous. Deep, layered, racy, very pure, well balanced, everything in place. Blackberry, black currant, tobacco and tea. Long, long finish. If you like this style of wine which is unique even in the pantheon of cult cabs this is in an excellent place.

Good cork, fill. PnP, good on opening, however improved throughout the night. Typical HA fruit - rich, big, silky, tasty. As others have noted, high alcohol is not a factor. Certainly a crowd pleaser. 94

Decanted over cocktails and served with dinner. Absolutely singing. Fresh, focused, intense berries, figs, and plums on the palate seamlessly yielding to a finish of wet leather saturated with plum. What a well-made wine and showing so beautifully.

Compared to 2006 Kali Morgan. The Ark received higher marks with fruit forward California new style. More balanced than Kali at this time. You could hold this for 15 more years. Very enjoyable and smooth. You would never know the alcohol level is 15+.

Sweet cherry mixed with black fruit. Full bodied and silky with no hard edges. Slight sense of mushroom, black rasberry, vanilla, and blood orange. Obviously, the wine is smooth yet complex. No need to wait.

Beautiful full bodied, red fruit, chocolate, cassis flavors. Silky mid palate held up by decent tannin. This is really easy to drink and doesn’t need a big decant.

Utterly seemless, silky and persistent cab with very fine tannin. Ripe sweet red fruit, creme de cassis, minerals, and touch of lead pencil. High alcohol but you don’t sense it. Decanted two hours. Not my favourite style of cab but you have to admire it for its purity.

Popped, aerated and poured, then consumed over the next 5-6 hours. A lot of complexity to start with, but the finish was slightly more harsh than I expected.

Needs air. Unfortunately I popped and poured. Was still great but this thing will treat you if you give it some time. Thick and brooding. Its a monster of a wine. Layers and layers of flavor. Chewy. A real treat that was just beginning to open up as we finished it over a 2 hr dinner.

Decanted an hour. Great nose of dark fruit, coffee bean, leather, loamy soil, flower garden. Tannins are well integrated with tastes of dark fruit… a hint of "young" astringency upon initial approach; very long finish. This is a fantastic wine that I'll be very interested to see how it evolves after another 2 years bottle time.

Amazing bottle of wine! The style and finish of this wine is amazing. Long, long finish lasting upwards of a minute in length! Hundred Acre is clearly in great drinking form. Still has very present tannins, but are starting to mute a bit. Color was very dark, inky look to it. Taste was loads of leather, berries, cassis, tobacco, and lots of terroir. This wine was an absolute delight to drink even though it was paired with Japanese food. Still this Hundred Acre wine was able to really show!

What a stunning wine; it was my Birthday wine choice, and a pleasure to share. A wonderful floral nose of dark fruit, cherries, bridal leather, tobacco and loam; long legs. Taste was both elegant and bold, a long enveloping mouthfeel of all the above, sweet-but-not-too-sweet soft tannins pushing all those senses to the limit. I look frward to this wine improving with time.

You expect a lot from Hundred Acre, and this Ark Vineyard lives up to this expectation. Pure silk when it warmed up to room temperature. Tannins were very present and the finish was easily over 45 seconds. Dark inky look with notes of coffee, leather, and loads of fruit. This wine will even be better in a few more years of cellaring. Certainly one of the better Hundred Acre vintages that I have tried. Closer to perfection. Great wine experience!

Consumed at Ristornate Allegria, Napa, CA with Carol, Dean and Leigh. Not nearly as big as I expected, but a top hat and tails sort of wine with a lot of sophistication. Dark red fruit, vanilla and oak. Exceedingly smooth right out of the bottle; continued to improve over the course of the meal, with increasing complexity. While this drinks beautifully now, I would hold a few more years to ensure an optimum experience.

Not what I have come to expect from Jayson, this is a medium to full bodied, soft and elegant young lady. I have always viewed all Hundred acres of being bold, in your face, masculine wines, that walk right up the edge of being overindulgent but pull it off beautifully. This was a gentle beauty: nose of cherries, vanilla and freshly tanned leather. Initially hits the mouth lightly then quickly envelops the entire mouth. Dark fruit, velvety tannins, touches of new oak, that is all pulled together by an all encompassing minerallity, which saves the wine. A great finish that lasts as long as you can wait until the next sip.

Pop and pour, this time at a local steakhouse. Dark purple and opaque in the glass, with great dark fruit aromas (black cherries, blueberries and blackberries) on the nose. Was amazed at how balanced this was right out of the gate, but the flavors were definitely more primary (sweet cherries, vanilla and a touch of oak) at the beginning. After several minutes in the glass, the flavors became a litle more complex and the oak less prominent. The tannins were evident, but were slightly sweet. Overall, very tasty and paired well with the dry-aged bone-in ribeye with red wine reduction sauce. Will have to try to find a few more bottles for aging as this was my last one!

Classic dark fruits and inky dark purple in the glass. Nose is fruity, blueberries and cherries and a little oak. Tannins are evident but not overpowering, and the slightly sweet fruit carries the medium acidity through the medium-long finish. Splash decanted two hours and served with grilled burgers with pepperjack, sherry and cognac sauteed mushrooms, bacon, lettuce and tomato. Delicious!

I was looking for a great ribeye steak wine so a figured a big wine like this would be good. Unfortunately, it did not work out well. The main issue was the heat, it was so overbearing. On the nose, I got a lot of sawdust and canned corn, which I usually get when I have high-alcohol wines. The heat was so prominent that it made me want to sneeze and gave me a burning sensation in my nostrils. That was the bad part. The rest of the wine was pretty good especially if you like big, extracted wines. Hiding behind the alcohol was a well-balanced wine, although I thought the tannins would have been bigger on this. The palate had prunes, molasses, blueberries and raisins. I would not try this wine again for at least 5 years.
