Beautiful purity and Saar firmness with wet stones and lemony fruit in a medium-weight body, good intensity, and excellent sugar/acid balance. Still plenty of future ahead. One of the MSR's more underrated estates. APN 09 02. Cellared since original release.

A kind of neon yellow color with a hint of green. Delicious nose of apricot marmalade, candied lemon peel, yellow flowers, but there's also a smoky mineral aspect. Fresh and clean on the palate, with tingly acid. Medium-bodied, elegant yet lively. Lemon peel, orange and apricot mix with notes of crushed rocks, honeysuckle and nougat and olive oil. Long, crisp finish. Just a hint of sweetness, but so focused. A great 2001 Kabinett that's probably in its prime.

Dinner at Maureen's (Washington, DC): Had a mature nose of diesel, white florals and tangerine. Palate started off with subtle lychee fruit, orchard fruit and smokey minerals. Wasn't incredible deep, but thought it was quite enjoyable. Very nice.

Wonderful notes of apricots and marmalade. This was wonderful with Cornish game hens and asparagus.
