I enjoyed this a lot, although I do think it's on the way down. It has some fruit left, and is more tannic than one would hope, but it really tastes more like a 20 year old Bordeaux than I would have expected, which I enjoyed.

A bit hard-edged at the moment, but still a well-balanced, food-friendly wine. If the tannins soften and it gains a little more complexity with time, this score may be conservative.

Not decanted. Medium-bodied wine that is medium red in color. On the nose, some red fruits, but mainly cedar wood. On the palate, tart plums and raspberries. The mouthfeel is a bit austere (missing those glycerins) and acidic, but the tannins do provide decent structure. The finish is light in intensity and lasts around 20 seconds. Really not a bad drink with food, but doesn't provide the usual L'Ecole drinking pleasure. Terrible QPR at ~$40...thankfully I've had much better L'Ecole experiences elsewhere.

MI Wine Club Ultracollectible Dinner (Seattle, WA, USA): 60% merlot, 34% cab sauv, 6% cab franc. This was a very nice mouthful of Washington wine, nicely balanced and structured, settling down well. I would be happy to drink this any day of the week.

Past it's prime but still enjoyable. Some cherry and oak, silky mouth feel.

Nice smooth wine with cherry and berry flavors over a firm finish.

Earthy with a hint of menthol up front. Opens up into some subtle stone fruits with a hint of chocolate on the finish.

Good balance between fruit (black cherries) and acid. Still has some tannins left, so could probably age another year or two.
