Mid-red. Quite developed. A gentle wine with mid-bodied slightly stewed red fruits, a tough of earth, and an even, modestly long finish. From my cellar since release, under cork. Decent enough wine. Good value back then for about $17 Aussie a bottle. Questionable if it had cost modern RRP.

I was happy w/ the value of this bottle. That said, it seems to be on the downside, with a more muted nose and slighter body than I imagine that it had in its youth. Gave off a lot of sediment after an hour or so. Palate had slight hints of black olive which went nicely w/ Mexican short ribs.

Unexpected. Smooth and elegant, dark berry fruit with soft tannin. Deep red color and good blackberries taste. Medium complexity. Bought over ten years ago, this bottle benefited from proper cellaring.

Dark purple. Fruit is muted on the nose. Still with tart tannins after 10 years in the bottle. Tannins have mellowed. Not bad. Good to see a Shiraz that can go for. 10 years.

- Brick color - Right out of the bottle the Bin 128 was subdued and lackluster; however, after an hour of breathing the wine became quite impressive (in comparison to an hour before). Dark ruby in color with a thin clear rim. Slight fruit bouquet with a touch of pencil/graphite smell....honestly that's a reach though. It smells like it has a little age to it which I really like. We paired it with a ribeye and it was quite pleasurable. In the mouth it's well balanced with a bit of fruit from the beginning to end. Honestly it was much better with food than on its own after dinner. I'd drink now or within the next year.

Nose is marred by a touch of nail polish. The palate starts out with nice vibrant fruit but after a couple of hours the acidity takes over and becomes rather shrill.

Give this time to wake up, but as others state, Penfolds Bin fans will be sorely disappointed. Overly alcoholic and little more than an above average Aussie Shiraz. However, at £6 this still represents a good QPR and could provide further ageing potential.

very nice fruit and a classic with any Red meat dish. Great Flavor Shiraz profile that is not over the top like so many Auzzie Shiraz. I think a few extra years in the bottle added this bottling a great deal of depth and character. Smooth am tasty mouthfeel.

Really good Aussie Shiraz, a bit of a 'throwback' in that it's not over the top in any way - Dark purple, well concentrated, notes of plum, cherry, pepper and vanilla on the nose, very well structured and balanced, noticeable tannins on the front palate, smooth on the finish with medium length (89 Points).

I will call this the black sheep of the Penfolds family. The BIN range, usually Penfolds upper quality (but not the highest quality range) wines for good everyday drinking, are usually pretty decent, just not excellent. This wine however is a great disappointment, over concentrated fruit and peppery water on the nose. More fruity, peppery water on the mouth, with a bit of vinegar and too much alcohol. I expect the BIN range to come in someware around 88 pts, a good everyday drinker, but this, this dear reader is a mar on the family tree.

Rather disapointed with this wine, and I'm a fan of Penfold's wines. There's a saline element on the back palate of this wine that is off putting. The fruit is good, and its rather juicy in acidity. But somehow it all seems a bit dull. However, on the 2nd day this wine was just as good, even the nose held up strongly. Actually, I think a like it a little better the 2nd day. This is a solid wine other then the saline element, but still not up to what I expect from Penfolds.

Decant and serve. Big, round, and juicy with ripe berry, pepper, and earth. Smooth tannins with a medium finish. Good length and mouthfeel, but missing the secondary flavors of other 03 Penfolds bin range. Drink or hold for the next 3-4 years.

I don't know why I find Aussie Shiraz completely boring, but I do. Not to say that this isn't quality, as most Penfolds products are, but it is mainstream, uninspiring, and simple. Jammy blackberry fruit with spice. Big deal. Throw a bunch of Yankee oak on this and call it a day. Viva la France!!

Opened 3 hrs prior to drinking. Lil and Paul's going away. Lovely inky-purple colour. Good use of oak, however the fruit was not equal to the challange. I found the wine very one dimensional but not even typical of coonawarra (strangely). Could be in an evolutionary state. Drink now through 2014.

Pleasant cherry, blackberry and cassis on the nose. Rich and fruity, full bodied and deep purple with moderately integrated tannins for the palate. Smooth and refreshing, yet somewhat heavy finish which was just right with New Zealand lamb.

Purchased and consumed for the September Wino Depot's TWF. Opened and decanted for an hour. Leather and fruit on the nose. Nice heavy feel on the palate with plenty of cherry and dark berry flavors.

NobleRottersSydney - Fosters new releases (Guillaume at Bennelong): {14%, cork, $24} The nose of Bin 128 was all dust and smoke, with a minimum of spiced fruit. A clunky thin structure; what minimal fruit there is dies on the front palate. An anodyne affair, as it has been for quite a few years, in my opinion; can’t help wondering if it’s only it’s pedigree as one of Schubert’s original blends that stops this wine going the way of the Clare Estate red…
