Overall: A wine unlike any other I've had. So decadent & smooth with a complexity that could keep your mind occupied for hours. Truly an experience. When we first opened it, it was like a butterscotch candy but after hours of air, it became more complex and like a ripe pineapple. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy again, nor would I say it's a wine I can sit around and drink a lot of but it's quite an incredible experience to try and that it was my points will be based on.

Last of 6, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, old, but still remarkably fresh and still with nice balance and some drive to the fruit. F+ (18).

Sunday @ my parents. Luckaly, this second bottle is free from (premature) oxidation! Drinking very well with notes of vanilla cream, caramelized apple, honey and salty minerality.

Belle robe dorée. Nez plaisant. Cependant au gouté, il y a une dégénérescence des arômes. Acididité tronquée. Pointe de pipi de chat. past peak probablement.

5th of 6, previous notes fine or better - pale yellow; fresh, floral, white peach, lemon zest; medium bodied, richer on mid palate than tail, less fruit than previous bottles, decent structure and balance, no rush to drink. Fine plus (18).

Much better than the bottle about which I posted on May 31. Colour was light gold and nose initially subdued, then showing cedar notes which were quickly covered by white fruit and minerals. The medium/full and mouth-filling palate was quite evolved but not unduly so for 18 years and mingled the notes from the nose with still lively acidity, slightly sweet hints and a firm, dare I say, rather tannic finish. Good.

This was a fabulous bottle of wine. It opened up a little tart and fruity, good acid, well balanced. About four hours later, I went back and tried the remainder of the bottle, and it was fantastic. It had opened up into a lush caramel tropical fruit monster. The acidity had mellowed out and it had developed a smooth, rich mouth feel. Next time I will decant this several hours in advance and let it warm up a bit from room temperature.

A quite spectacular wine that seems to be on the downslope of its life. Drink up now to avoid disappointment. I had two bottles over dinner with friends and the first faded after showing quite well on opening but the second stood up well and seemed, well, fresher and with more zest than the other. I think this is not due to bottle variation alone but that time is becoming less kind to this wine now.
Rich and relatively deep golden color. Minerals and nuts (hazelnuts, almonds) with bits of vanilla and a touch of spice blends with sweet fruit and citrus scents. On the palate the citric and exotic fruits blend well with the solid acidity to give a delicious sophisticated and subtle taste. Oh where were you two years ago?

Great Wines at Brad's House (Minneapolis): OXIDIZED.... FWIW, it was better in the mouth than on the nose, but we still dumped it and moved on... I loved this wine on release, and I had high hopes for the lone bottle I purchased and have cellared for the last six or seven years... Bummer.

Clearly the richest of this flight with quite a lot of alcohol on the nose and palate. Surprisingly well balanced acidity for a 96. Unfortunately served too cold after being in my ice bag all day to allow much of the deeper aromas and nuances to emerge but still very nice.

Look: Deep gold; no legs
Nose: burnt caramel, pie crust, pineapple upside down cake, flint, apricot, slight butterscotch candy (more prominent right after opening)
Palette: ripe pineapple, vanilla, white flower, honeysuckle, buttery & silky mouthfeel, decadent

j'ai relu la note précédente, et même expérience avec la 2e bouteille:
"Cependant au gouté, il y a une dégénérescence des arômes. Acididité tronquée. Pointe de pipi de chat.
past peak probablement."

Premoxed in spite of firm and largely dry cork. Keeping the rest back to test theory of recovery of poxed bottles like this.
PS 2 days later - no sign of recovery so down the sink.

Still drinking pretty well, but on the edge. Slightly oxidized. Drink it up over the next year.
