  • Remnans of mostly black fruit. Light colour and structure, but still in good shape with refinement and elegancy. Holding well, no decline. Soft final with still some length.
    Ergo a surprise Allard Botenga

  • Dichtes Ziegelrot, kristallklar.

  • (home tasting) The cork was shattered to pieces. The wine was way past its time, but luckily it wasnt oxidised. Aromas of sweet spices, cherries, tobacco. bit of leather. Rather short aftertaste. I could feel that this could have been something quite good 5-7 years back. Still, happy to try such an old vintage from a much loved chateau.

  • still cleaning out the cellar. i reached into a wood case of what i thought were dead horses and found a collection of 1976 bordeaux. my swiss cheese memory did not store away having purchased any wine from the 1976 vintage so i never thought to look for them over the years. professional review indicated wine was long over the hill so we decided to pop the cork. other cellartracker members owning this bottle need not despair. the wine is still alive. removing foil revealed truffle smell of earthen particles under the capsule. cork was fully saturated and slightly loose fitting. some back pressure. extracted relatively intact with one fracture at furthest excursion of the corkscrew. fill was mid shoulder. the wine offered an enchanting aroma wafting from the bottle. color was slightly thin with some browning but not to the extent described by parker. no dirty or barnyard flavors evident. gentle floral fruit. acid, and tannin fully resolved. no alcohol or heat in the glass but lab work would have documented elevated blood levels. the wine remained intact for 45 minutes and even put on a little weight at the end. sedimentation was extensive but confined to the last glass. this wine was a pleasant surprise although i am sure it had more to offer in its youth. nevertheless, its longevity is a testament to the good things that were happening at this property in the 1960's and 1970's. our fond memories of early experiences with brane cantenac are further reinforced by tonite's experience.
