2015 Château La Fleur-Pétrus

  • On the nose: Cedar, a bit of tobacco, red and black fruit.

On the palate: Full but not overtly ripe black fruit, red fruit, cedar and tobacco. Big tannins but actually quite soft and well integrated. Pleasant long finish.

Was expecting to get my teeth knocked out, but it was surprisingly approachable for such a young Bordeaux. Also quite a bit of fruit not as austere as some Bordeaux can be in its youth. I've got to say really enjoyed this one.

  • BYOB dinner NOTK (NOTK, Rotterdam): This was surprisingly approachable for a 2015 BDX. Medium intensity; lovely, lush (black) fruit, ceder, sandlewood, minerality, hint of tar. 93% merlot, 7% petit verdot. 92++

  • My first ever La Fleur-Pétrus and this started off good, and ended up excellent by the end of the evening.

The fruit was ripe, and this is a wine which will evolve to even further greatness in the next 10-20 years. 4.3 🌟 today, at least 4.5 🌟 by 2030. This is on the 5 star rating system of Vivino.

Blend: 92% Merlot, 7.5% Cab Franc and 0.5% Petit Verdot

Nose: I loved the beautiful open aromatics. Initially some vanilla and coconut. Quickly transcended into flowers such as light rose petals, and lavender as well as red fruits.

Tannins: Polished tannins and perfectly ripe fruit. Dense and very long. Perfect balance.

    Acidity: Medium.

Palate: Plum and intense black fruits, which seem to coat the palate with a rich finish. Stunning mouthfeel, with such elegance despite the power and richness in the structure.

Body: Full bodied, and I just kept wanting drop after drop of this.

Finish: Medium length, but likely to lengthen. Loved the tobacco and licorice with such complex layers which are just developing now.

La Fleur-Pétrus was acquired by Jean Pierre Moueix in 1950. It became a part of the négociant house Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix which also owns Château Trotanoy. Thanks Wikipedia for these notes!

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is located on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in Pomerol.

As all wine produced in this appellation, La Fleur-Pétrus is unclassified but the estate is estimated among the great growths of the region.

Situated across the road from Château Pétrus adjacent to Château Lafleur, the vineyard lies on the high plateau of Pomerol where the soil is composed of deep clay and gravel.

A truly classical Pomerol. What an exquisite sharing, thanks for generously bringing this along brother DavidQ! 🥈 Top 3 of the 11 different wines which were shared at my recent 49th birthday celebration in Tang Room.

I was truly spoiled by my Vivino Malaysia buddies on my birthday dinner... 11 different wines, of which 4 were 1.5 L magnums!

  • Deep, tannic, darker style. Needs 8 more years. Drink 2030-2040.

  • Tasted after 1 hour of air and again at 24 hours. Elegant and approachable from the first sip. Fruit, gravel and chalk as well as a hint of mint on the long finish. Day two the tannins were even smoother and the alcohol although toceable felt more balanced. Still plenty of fruit and chalkiness, and find the licorice on the finish mentioned by the previous reviewer.
Way too young but a very nice wine.

  • Moueix tasting. Beautiful nose of lilac, rises, raspberries, plums, a hint of lead, buttered brioche, almonds, some licorice. The palate is less defined than the nose. Red and black fruits are powerful and forward. Blueberries and blackberries. Balanced and surprisingly fresh for such a big wine. Some mint and licorice on the long finish. This should have years before peak, but it's already enjoyable.

  • Enchanting nose, prettier than Pomerol usually is with fresh blueberry, clay, gravelly mineral, and an enticing floral hint (lavender?) - but there’s a lot of heat coming through on the palate, which really detracts and distracts. If you’re drinking this (which I wouldn’t advise prior to 2025-2027), be sure to do it with a bold meal which will help to mask the spirity quality in the mouth. Medium plus body, medium tannin. It’s always tough to score these chimeras that show some glorious aspects on the nose but which, as complete wines, are clearly hobbled by excessive alcohol.

  • Young and should have never ordered this along side of Haut Brion. It was a distant back up to the Chateau Margaux, which sold just before we could lock it down! Probably above average by itself, but tonight it was mediocre with the other wines.

  • 91 Merlot, 7 Cabernet Franc, 2 Petit Verdot

Sandy tannin, "refined" describes this wine best. Cool soil, red and blue flowers. Mixture of red and blue fruits as well. Already this is a complex wine. Sightly candied but in a good way. Cotton candy as well. Licorice, red cherry, there is a umami sensation to the back palate.

This La Fleur Petrus is a class act. Good stuffing, elegance, complex, and juicy. Already a wine to drink now but by 2028, you will start seeing its potential and by the 30s, it will be singing. Such a great potential. It will be worth the wait. 93++

  • This wine was just delivered and I decided to pull the cork on the bottle and give it air for 3 hours. The tannins are almost smoothed out. Violets, pencil lead, and dark red cherries. Very nice representative from the Pomerol region.

  • Elegant, sensuality is on display here. The wine is effortless to taste with its lush, chocolate covered cherry, plum and licorice profile. There is concentration, polish and freshness. But make no mistake, it's the sexy, multi-layered, velvet textured finish that is the highlight of the wine. Age this stunner for a decade and as the truffles kick in, you'll really be blown away.

  • No notes taken. Of all the 2015 I got to taste that day this one impressed me the most. All there yet already very approachable. Stunning future ahead.

  • Tasted the 2015 Château La Fleur-Pétrus and Château Trotanoy at the château. Both were impressive and quite memorable. The La Fleur Pétrus is 92% Merlot, 7.5% Cabernet Franc, and 0.5% Petit Verdot -- their first vintage with PV in the blend. Bursting with cherries and quite floral on the nose. Tannins are beautifully integrated. Incredibly fresh with serious concentration.

  • Pomerol panache (Bordeaux, actually tasted during en primeur week): Lovely aromatics mixing bright ripe fruit and violets. This barrel sample succeeds in blending much power with seashell freshness – at last – in the context of this vintage chez JP Moueix. In many ways – and compared to previous vintages – it still comes across rather big and brawny. By comparison, the refined grace at Vieux Château Certan is miles ahead. 92-95

  • It is like walking into your neighborhood flower shop to find an open jar of licorice and a vat of fresh-squeezed cherries amidst the arrangements. Elegant, supple and alluring, the crushed velvet tannins are outstanding when paired with all that ripe, sweet, lush kirsch liqueur in the finish. The harvest took place from September 11 to October 1. The blend is 92% Merlot, 7.5% Cabernet Franc and for the first time, a dab of Petit Verdot was included in the wine at .05%.
