This wine really surprised me! I was expecting a big, fat, extracted CA Pinot Noir and it was not! It was more Old World in style - delicate, a little dry earth, spice and smoke.
I decanted it for 90 minutes and served it with a slight chill. This wine exceeded my expectations!

pnp Good nose. A bit heavy weight for a pinot IMO. A little orange zest, underripe cherry, hint of slate. Not bad, but not really exciting. Pretty basic. Rose nose, it just seems a bit manipulated.

It smells like black cherry up front but the wood and smokiness come through quickly on the first taste. Not a bad Pinot Noire, but it’s just a bit marginal. No punch anywhere which probably works for some people (fades pretty quickly.) It’s just like ruffles plain ridged potato chips; you know what you are getting into and there are no surprises.
I’ll wait a few years to try the second bottle.

Some simple and thin flavors of black cherry and faint earth and spice. Mid-palate was hollow, with the "attack" (of what there even was) fleetingly whipping over the palate and rushing straight into a fast-dropping finish. A pedestrian version of the varietal, especially when compared to others in the same price-point ($65). Drank like a $15 Pinot at best.
85-86 points.

Tasted at the winery. Clear, pale ruby. Red cherry, dark cherry, oak, haw, earth. Medium+ acidity, medium body. The good: Smooth and silky mouthfeel. The not-so-good: Simple tannic structure and a lack of stuffing on the palate. The bad: QPR. Give me a decent burgundy any day.

An instant blast of heavy cedar and mulch. A stinging and bitter attack with an alcohol-drenched 2x4 aftertaste.
Returned for another bottle (which was not flawed).
