Side by side tasting with the alluvia a second time around (first time was at the winery). Straight out of the bottle, we liked silica better. It had more dark cherry, cocoa, vanilla, and hints of cinsmmon and clove. However, as this sat for an hour and over the next couple of day, it lost its initial intensity and depth, so that we liked the alluvia better.

Tasted both the 2013 Alluvia and Silica side-by-side. Group overall liked the Alluvia a little better. Softer tannins and more red fruit, medium finish. The Silica had a stronger character to it - a little more acid and minerality. Both were very good.
