La Conseillante 1971 Part of an old cellar purchase. I got the wines this morning, and stood this up, expecting to drink it this weekend. But after I discovered another bottle from the cellar a 1975 Bouscaut was leaking and tasted DOA so I poured it down the sink. So despite knowing I should have waited, I pulled out the Ah So, and went after the Conseillante. Usually totally reliable, it left a small piece of cork in the bottle. In the end, after some feeble attempts to extricate the cork, I pushed it in, and used a meshed funnel as I decanted that captured almost all of the cork. So after all the horrible things that I put it through, how did it look and taste? It was brilliant. The color a clear dark rose, and aromas of smoked meat, flowers and red fruit. Still amazingly fresh, it tasted of the rose hips, spice and fresh strawberries. The finish was long, and layered. Loved the wine, and as it stayed in the glass, it remains fresh, but creeping in were some tertiary aromatics of earth and mushroom. A lovely wine. It did fade after a couple of hours, but we were savoring the wine, and should have drunk a little more quickly.

Medium-bodied, floral, elegant and refined. The wine is all about the roses, red berries and earthy notes on the nose, the silky, light touch of earthy, red fruits on the palate and the graceful, soft textured finish. This is probably a bit more than full-mature, but it is a solid example of an older, classic vintage for La Conseillante. No decanting needed. If you have any, this is not a vintage to hold for further development. Drink up and enjoy.

Year in, year out, regardless of vintage. La Conseillante outperform. This 71 was quite an average vintage, I heard only Trotanoy did very well. Surprisingly this one was full of life, nose of dry flowers, slight soy sauce and smoke. Palate was fresh with lively berries, potpourri, and amazingly mellow. This was aged but definitely not old!

This is why I love bordeaux. To many, the 71 vintage is a write off, yet this bottle shows that the best winemakers will also make great wine. It has deep intensity and is transitioning from ruby into garnett. The nose is developed with chocolate, Bell Peppers and leather. It is dry with low tannins and medium alcohol and a medium to full body. The wine is balanced, and I recall thinking the nose was Rayas esque! I loved this wine.

Green peppers, tobacco, truffles, lovely nose, leather, chocolate, good for the age & vintage, a lovely mature Bordeaux, what's not to like about it ? 93

A very bright bottle with leather, spiced fruit and vanilla notes. Continued to open over the course of an hour. Could have benefited from additional bottle age.

Cork seal tight, but crumbled heavily. Filtered and decanted. Suprisingly dark colour and a clean nose. Loose structure, softened acids and a bit of clay in the middle. Even some very drawn fruit appearing. Shorter finish, but no bad elements here. Plenty of enjoyment here and for 2+ glasses.
Am normally loathe to critique critics here, but the RP note of 20+ yrs ago calling this faded and brown is so laughably off-base.
