Sit down tasting, tasted double blind. Seemed old world to me. Floral and well spiced, ripe but wonderfully balanced combination of fruit and structure. Very good length.

Still crazy good with plenty of life left. Quintessential WA state Syrah from Red Mountain no less so extra tannin, minerality and extra long finish. Stored since receiving in my cellar @ 58F.

Notes from day 4...I popped this on a thursday night, had half the bottle and vacu-sealed the rest until tonight (sunday). Still going strong and was a delight to drink, pairing well with grilled pork chops. Rich boysenberry fruit and vanilla, with espresso coffee and hints of bacon fat. Really nice flavor profile and still a bit of tension. I think this has many more years of good drinking ahead...drink now - 2035.

I bought a lot of Betz based on critical praise, and a small selection of bottles poured by friends. Since then I had a number of disappointments. This bottle was not one of them. Boysenberry fruit, smoke, flowers and black pepper, this wine delivered the goods. It was already showing well when I popped it open, but I followed it over two days, and it kept powering through. Balanced, deep and just a whole lot of palate pleasure. This can certainly age, as it has the structure to back up the fruit, but it’s really good now.

Good quality wine, but like most of the 30+ Betz wines I've tasted, it has a generic, build on the blending bench vibe to it. In that aspect it's very Woodinville. Again, not bad quality wine, just unexceptional.

Purple in color. 13.7% ABV. Savory nose of black fruits, charred meats, blood and lavender. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Rich and plush with copious dark fruits. Black cherry, blackberry liqueur, coffee and olive brine on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Outstanding Syrah and the clear winner in the 2015 Betz lineup. Best over the next 4-6 years.

Decanted for an hour; wine is entering its mature phase in my view. Very smooth, with flavors of mature fruit balanced off with wood, camphor and minerals. No rough edges at all. Full-bodied with a long finish. Much better than my first bottle I tried a couple years ago.

Dark garnet to purple color, clear throughout. Nose of blueberries, cassis, boysenberries and plums. Flavors of raspberries, boysenberries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Not sure if this was an off bottle or if it's shutting down, but this was consumed over a 2 hour period and it was rather muted and underwhelming, somewhat reminiscent of a not so good 2008 La Côte Patriarche... 88-89

13.7%abv. Red Mountain Syrah. Dark plum/ purple with light rim. Slow staining of purple tears - quality juice. On nose, all smoke and meat up front, portobello, barnyard, buried under all the funk is monolithic dark fruit. Contrast the nose with a sweet attack, soft swirling tannins, black and red fruit, plums, dark licorice, pan drippings and coffee. Med mouthfeel and finish. Throws a fair bit of sediment. My first Betz Syrah - what a Jekyll and Hyde between nose and palate. Will let sit for a day and revisit. 92 on first taste for uniqueness, originality.
