Tasted over 1 hr; from 375 mL, bottle and cork in good shape -med gold -caramel/butterscotch, lanolin -med+ acidity, med- weight, mostly oak on moderately long finish -certainly quite oxidized at this point but not quite dead thanks to the good acidity but very little left other than oak

Served semi blind (the capsule is distinctive). Pretty weak, although the nose was interesting, and the wine for what it was, was certainly in good shape. But in 1984, Nature was not in a giving mood, and apparently La Mission was not in a taking one. The wine collapsed on the palate a quarter of the way in, and never recovered.

"Who's knocking at my doo"r said the 1984 Laville Haut Brion Blanc... It's death. There was a glimmer of fruit remaining, but that was hard to find. The wine was maderized. My advice, don't buy this for a birth year wine.

When first opened, it was slightly bitter. I thought it had spoiled. After sitting in the glass a while it really opened up. By the second glass it was smooth and light. Wow! Very nice wine.

I always forget of how the old Bordeaux whites age... when I poured the bottle the rust brown colour did not bode well in relation to oxydation... Thankfully it was nothing like that! My 10y daughter smelled steewed peaches, and she was right on the money. The wine did take about 45 min to open up, and metamorphosed into an unexpected yellow fruit salad mix. Lovely! Looking forward to my next 23 half-bottles!

second glass got better with a bit of air. Good but not great. Lack of length but still a bit of fruit and evolved character.

Very oxydated. Not to my taste, but many people around the table liked it. An acquired taste.

3 bottles bought at auction with good levels and all 3 were oxidised. Luckily the 84 Domaine de Chevaliar bottles, from the same lot, are stunning.

2nd bottle and again its oxidised. Shame as the Domaine de Chevalier 84, bought at the same time, is great.

Lowest fill of the 3 bottles. Thought it might come to life with some air, but it just fell appart.
