Tasted double blind. Aromas of red fruit with a subtle stewed quality. Flavors of tart cherry and red fruit, with good length on the finish. There was a very slight soy quality which kept the score down, otherwise very nice. Ended up in the same flight, right next to the 1994.

Tasted in double-blind fashion at Vintage Wines, Ltd. Bottle provided by Ed Porth. Bright disc. Deep ruby robe with red rim. Clean nose, showing moderately intense chocolate, raisin, prune, black cherry and damp earth aromas. Full-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity (possibly added by the winemaker in light of such ripeness), big sweet tannins and similar ripe flavors as for the nose. Long, slightly hot finish.

Blind Tasting 1978 - 1995 Ridge Dusi Ranch Zinfandels (Rich & Peggy's House, Los Altos, CA): Reticent nose, some light raspberry. Light bodied with medium acidity. Tart dried cherries and black tea. Nice depth of fruit left but also great acidity. Excellent. (my 1st, group's 3rd)

Not sure how to score this, but it was not over the hill. Complex, dark mature fruit, a little acidic tartness in the finish. Suprisingly good.
