CA Syrah; 5/27/2012-6/5/2012: Rich and boozy first impression with ripe plum and berry everywhere and a underlying plasticky thing. With air some pepper and more savory tones emerged but this was kind of lost in the mix as it was intermediate on the ripeness, alcohol, meatiness, and had nothing to stand out. As such, it was the sleeper and ended up being my second favorite wine at the end of the night.

Same reaction as my tasting from earlier this year, although I think I gave this a slightly higher score due to Novy reputation and past experience with maker; solidly made wine, but it is just not that complex and the finish is very quick

this continues to be one of the best wine bargains ever. a very enjoyable, full bodies win with layers of flavor and nuance. Nice pepper, structure, fruit and musty dusty notes. A true calif red syrah, but well made and fun to drink.

Dark black in color. Nose is subdued not giving much. Big and bold. Too young, but it was getting late and I had to pick something quick as first pick was corked. Day 2 showed much more dark fruit and big structure. Will hold last bottle for some time.

Right out of the bottle, this wine was an alcoholic mess of a fruit bomb with minimal finish. An hour in the decanter and chilled, it tasted like a pretty good cliche Shiraz. A year+ from my last note and nothing's changed, except my tolerance for clumsy hot climate Syrah. I'm sure there are far better Novy wines than this, a pity that I let the WS score steer me towards this bottling over others.

Really dominated by oak and roasted coffee right now. Although does posses some nice floral/ herbal components. Good blackberry and blueberry fruit, but I don't think it has the stuffing to shed the excessive oak. Drink now-2011. 86? pts.

Great wine, should have opened earlier and let sit and I didn't get as much nuance from this bottle as I remember. However this wine is wonderful. Great fruit, hints of meat, coffee maybe and silk texture. My Novy purchases have dropped a bit and I don't know why (other than budget constraints). Great stuff consistently from these guys and the price is pretty good too given the quality of the grapes and winemaking team.

15.5% alcohol... The first night this wine was tight, showing some, but not all the attributes I would have expected...after a night in the fridge...nose of deep smoke, fresh sliced prosciutto, pepper, black cherries, vanilla...full-bodied, good structure, amazing acidity for a wine with this weight, sweet fruit, smoke, nice complexity. Medium length finish, 20-25 seconds. Quite hedonistic.

Of all the Page-Nords I've had, I found this one to be the most confected. Loads of blueberry on the nose. Palate is sweet with cotton candy, coconut, and more blue fruit. It lacks something...I don't know...it's slightly flabby. Perhaps needs some time. It's quaffable, but over the top and unremarkable unless you want a fruit bomb.

Opened to aerate in my cellar for 4 hours or so before pouring our first glass. Dark purple in color. Wonderful inviting blackberry and coffee (or chocolate?) aromas on the nose, with the same combination on the palate. This is not a shy wine, but at the same time is not overpowering. The finish was pretty decent, although a touch of alcohol. All in all, a great wine!

Drank with a flank steak with Mike & Daisie. Wow, big from the start, mouth-filling fruits. Good long finish. Very impressive. Drinking well now, but could hold for several years with no problems.

This wine is really a winner. This was our 2nd bottle and it was drunk over a few nights. So much to offer, last night was vanilla blueberries w/ some hints of chocolate and coffee grounds. At $32 I'd be hard pressed to find any other bottle I'd want instead of this one. Novy Syrahs are just great bottles of wine at relatively affordable prices. This wine was enjoyed with friends alongside a Linne Calodo 2005 Rising Tides. Both wines were excellent but the Novy was over $10 cheaper and provided arguably more complexity and depth of flavors.

Nice syrah! Rich fruits but not a fruit bomb at all. Everything was balanced with great fruit, nice tannins, and a good finish. Dark purple in color, this is a teeth staining wine but man did it go down smooth! I think this will actually be better in a year or two or if it was decanted. We just popped and poured and everything said they enjoyed this. Thanks Siduri/Novy!

This was somewhat disappointing as it did not distinguish itself from a zillion Aussie Shirazes many of which are cheaper. The flavor of alcohol is in play. Standard Syrah profile with an emphasis on dark fruit. A redeeming factor is the above average finish. A good wine, but I don't understand 90+ ratings. This was sourced directly from Siduri/Novy and shipped in February so I can't imagine it got cooked. If they had taken this wine out of the proverbial oven a bit earlier, the fruit might be worth raving about.

Intense and concentrated, with a grapey blackberry and wild berry presentation of dark fruit. Well-focused, deftly balanced, with a beam of flavors that's long and vibrant on the finish.

Funky nose, with olive, mushroom, and petrol hints; wonderful fruit, pepper, olive, with a long finish and a touch of fruity sweetness on the midpalate.

Siduri/Novy Winemaker Tasting (Farpointe Cellar): Nice fruit on the nose. I got some black currant and little bit of cherry. The fruit was mixed with a touch of pepper. The palate had sweet raspberry and oak. This was followed by hints of pepper and spice. The tannins were firm and it had a good finish.

A massive wine full of blue fruit and wonderful oak imparted vanilla. After it opened and warmed up there were additional aromas and flavors that jumped inot the mix but I lack the palate to truly define. What a wonderful wine, especially for the price. I'd recommend decanting and drinking over several hours to allow this to evolve. I have one bottle left and hope to get more with my next order (if there's any left!)

Agree with riccodog. coffee and dark berry nose; very subdued wine with short finish. 2004 Novy Rosella blows this one away

A very good wine. Might of liked it more a year ago. Comlplexity had increased, but lost some of the wonderful fruit from before.
