Had this a while back with a couple of other wines and remember this being good, but rather simple at the moment. Big ripe fruits. I would give it more time.

Rates a 92 with a big upside. This wine drank well young. I decided to let it sleep, and live through an expected dumb phase. It appears that this strategy worked; or perhaps there was never a dumb phase. In any event, this wine really delivers now, and it's hard to imagine that it will get better. Well balanced wine, good fruit and acidity with resolved tannins. Long pleasant finish.

Opened an hour in advance. Deep ruby, perfect clarity. Beautiful aromatics of red fruit, pomegranate, ground coffee, and violet. Medium weight, substantial for Volnay but neither too heavy nor too ripe. Tart cherry, real bitter chocolate richness, earthy base, and a finish which is both quite saline and moderately tannic. Well above class for village Volnay. Very enjoyable now but this will age slowly and well.

A beautiful village wine in a youthful, decadent, giving stage. Fruit in this vintage is rich, round with some dark chocolate hints accenting the red cherry, florals and spice. Plenty of freshness and balancing structure to keep the fruit lively and juicy. Lip smacking, flavor packed finish.

Ripe black cherry and plump black raspberry, with some spice and stone. Plush and simple right now. Finishes round and semi-full. A decent sipper, but not exhibiting much complexity at this juncture. A basic appellation Pinot. Hold for a few years. 90+ points.

Has lost the exuberant fruitiness of youth. Still possessing a deep Burgundian nose, but the palate is dominated by acidity and soapy tannins. Let this one sleep through it's closed down phase and it will reemerge as something special.

Aromatic with lots of bright crunchy dark and red fruit and savoury floral tones; concentrated and expansive with a hint of sweet oak spice in a supporting role; there are probably tannins hiding under all that fruit; delightful.

Very fruit forward, with a secondary note of cedar bark and a hint of cinnamon bark. Deliciously fresh and young. Would be interesting to see how it ages!

Pop n' pour. This took some time to open up. Clearly young and rich without much nuance at first. Builds nice depth and complexity with time. Pure, rich fruit with excellent emerging spice and florals. Upside from here.

A point less than last time but ditto previous notes. Tasted blind in a strong field of eight '15 red Burgundies organized by me. I chose this as my last place wine. Slightly off bottle, or was this just a really strong field? By itself, I think it's gorgeous, and it's a great value.

Clear medium ruby. Sweet (almost candied) red cherry, earthy spice, oak, supported by hints of stems and violets. Less candied, and a touch savoury, with air. Developing. Medium+ acidity, medium body, medium+ intensity of red cherry, raspberry, earthy spice, green stems. Medium+ just firm tannins, medium finish. This has very good intensity both on the nose and palate for a village. The strength of the vintage is shining through. Drink now and over the next 5 years. 90-91 pts.

Damned good for a village wine, but 2015 is touted as a legendary vintage. Great nose. Young and tannic, but with copious pinot noir fruit shining through on this well balanced palate. Great acidity assures freshness and a great finish.Pleasurable now and for many years to come. Expect improvement as the tannins melt away.

Blackberry and plum, high acid, toasty oak, glossy. Maybe in an awkward phase?
