I wanted a really good bottle of Pinot Noir. I also wanted to bust out of the rut where I have been reluctant to open Mugneret-Gibourg. Sure it was just a Bourgogne, but it definitely checked both boxes, especially after about two hours of air. A small pour immediately on opening was rough and tannic. Another splash an hour later gave hints that it would yield to time. At dinner time another hour later the fruit had emerged, and the tannins receded to the corner. It was finally showing some earthy tones, and more ethereal aromatics. It took the step from being a Pinot Noir to being obviously Burgundy, with the savory playing an equal role with the fruit. Based on this bottle I would think another three or four years would be very beneficial, though a quick decant might suffice for the impatient.

22 months after the prior: This was lovely before, and it approached fabulous this time. Beautifully integrated. Hints of forest floor and white pepper. There is almost a creamy texture — backed up by adequate acidity. Generous and expressive from the beginning, it became only more enjoyable by the end of the third night.

Medium ruby. Simultaneously bright and rather deep. A touch of spice, and a good dose of ground white pepper. Hints of wild strawberry. Quite harmonious, and very enjoyable over three nights. Lovely stuff. We will try to hold off on the remaining bottle.

Similar to prior bottle, though in the last 18 months this has evolved nicely and I’d say this is entering an early window. Fantastic Bourgogne. Drink now and over next 5-8 years.

Followed over two nights and this is really lovely. Not surprisingly, it is bigger and more structured than the 2014 version I had not long ago, but everything remains in balance. This seems pretty serious for a Bourgogne and will age well - I'll try to wait a couple of years before trying another.

Tastes like a baby Vosne. Great Bourgogne Rouge!
