From 75cl screwcap. My TN of 18.08.2021 promises a lot more than this bottle delivered. Better than some other, even thinner 2016 Rieslings recently tasted, this was still a dilute, flaccid effort, a wine for true connoisseurs of bottled mineral water, perhaps? 87–88P(?)

From 75cl screwcap P+P, improved until last drop. Vibrant apricot-passionfruit-pineapple fruit in a medium-bodied package, nicely dry with bright acidity in perfect balance. Tingle, tingle. This is now entering full maturity, and should have perhaps 4-5 years optimum drinking ahead. 90-91P

From 75cl screwcap. My first 75cl of this vintage is just as meltingly beautiful, perfectly balanced and moreish, but simply younger and better-preserved than my final 37,5cl was back on on 18.02.2020. Künstler excels in "off"-vintages, and his "lighter" wines are often my favourites (Kabinett as opposed to the more expensive GG let alone Goldkapsel bottlings). This is still young (in this format) and has many years to run. 90-91P

Excellent.

From 37,5cl screwcap. Some CO2 bubbles, gorgeous cooler-year Hölle Kabinett, with bright acidity, strong mineral backbone and the zing noted by Xavier Auerbach back in 2017 still very present. Lovely stuff anytime between now and the late 2020s (from 75cl, that is). 90P

2016 Hochenheimer Holle, kabinett trocken Litt anonym nese med blomster, sitrus og mineraler. Frisk eplefrukt, sitrus og mineraler i munnen, med litt grønt i ettersmak. Saftig, litt lukket. Spenstig syre og brukbar lengde. 87

An interesting comparison with the Kirchenstück Kabinett Trocken 2016 tasted yesterday. As is to be expected, the style here is firmer and earthier, more herbal and spicy, with a little more weight (12% ABV), and a more structured palate that needs a bit more time to find its feet. It is not as expressive as the Kirchenstück yet and I doubt that it ever will be. Qualitatively they are on a par however, and I really like the precision with which the differences in terroir are expressed. Drink 2019-2024+. Good potential here.

In complete contrast with the succulent and immediately attractive 2015, this is tight and herbaceous, mineral and yeasty, but underneath there is fresh and juicy fruit and a lovely floral note. Good potential, needs 12 months. A private tasting at Weingut Künstler.

Quite sophisticated on the nose with aromas of citrus fruit and wet stones. Less sophisticated on the palate and a bit short. Probably not something I'd buy again.

Weingut Künstler 2016 Riesling and 2015 Spätburgunder (Weingut Künstler, Hochheim): Floral/grapey perfume-like scent, darker and more serious than the Kirchenstück Kabinett; medium-bodied entry with serious, round, fat apricot-tinged fruit; medium-long finish. Very pure, great potential 2020-2030. 13€ cellar door. 90(+)P

Very similar to my previous note, this time the zingy acidity, the zesty grapefruit and the convincing finish are noted in particular.
