Loire valley (and a little Champagne); 9/14/2023-9/22/2023: From open 75cl at Taille aux Loups tasting room, Montlouis-sur-Loire. Not as unpleasantly smelly as the 2021 tasted just before, but alas hard to say what the nose has to offer. Appetizing salty/lemon entry; clean inexpressive lemony mid-palate. Finish tasted old, but not musty. 86P(?)

This bottle was served in a flight of 2 others from Montlouis sur Loire - a 16 Jacky Blot and a 14 Chidaine. Next to those it came across as especially flat and not giving. I don’t think the wine was corked, some tasters loved it, but to me it was best described as being generic.

Needed to reach closer to room temp, was impressive once open and equilibrated. Quince and lanolin aromas, fresh yet round on the palate, finishes with white stone fruit and minerality. Long wine, with depth of flavor, and well-balanced.

The two notes below are generally apt for us. We will add: Pleasant muskiness, framed by beautifully piercing acidity. Highly enjoyable over three nights.

Pale gold color. Primary/secondary aromas - braised fig and citrus oil, wet stone, tea leaf, fall foliage, pistachios. Tangy succulent fruit on the palate, bright and intense, more citrus driven - zesty orange. Dense secondary notes of crushed stone and spices. Beautifully integrated acid, rich textures, generous depth throughout. Still very primary on the palate, but showing very well.

Decanted for a good 30 minutes. Needed. Soft honey on the nose, honeysuckle feel that gives way to ripe apricot and light citrus. The nose points to a slight sweetish palate but it's not. Light oxitative touch on palate, soft wine, good palate presence. Good 89 and drink now

Mineral-driven and promising much for the future, right now I prefer the Dix Arpents 2014 which is a lesser wine (though lovely) but probably at its peak.

Impressive Montlouis, standing on par with top Vouvray from him. Subtle reduction notes, lemon pith, golden apricot. Somewhat tight right now, revisit in 5!

Sadly the same as previous reviewer - vinegary acidity, undrinkable, gave it plenty of time in decanter but it only got worse. Shame.

Way too tart and bitter. Did not enjoy. Was it just a bad bottle?

Excellent and intense wine. Started opening up after 30 minutes. It should be a great match for white meat dishes.
