  • Rich dark fruit flavors wrapped in some forest floor. Full bodied wine but did not come across as heavy/ cloying

  • Dark cherries, chocolate, licorice and herbes de Provence. More smooth since last try 3 years ago. Will hold for several years ahead. This is definitely a Bang-for-the-buck kind of wine!

  • ≈1 hr decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then capped; NO visible sediment; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: RIPE plums with a floral component

P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with nice, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which pretty much works itself out by the LONG, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with a pleasant bitter/swtness to the few, innocuously firming, dusty tannins. Not the match I'd hoped for with the night's Smkd Pk BBQ Ribs, the meat itself being < problematic than the BBQ Sauce, which seemed to bring out the wine's bitterness. Not at all tired, I suspect this should hold into '23, though without improvement. And, with what to pair it? 14.5% ABV; My VG+ // Day 2: Similar aromas to Day 1, but < intense; P is also very ≈ Day 1, so negligible decline overall. However, it was even a poorer match with the night's Mixed Mandarin/Szechuan Take Out (the swtness of some of the sauces?), bringing out even > bitterness than had Day 1's pairing. [As of late Aug '20, wine-searcher shows no available sources for this vintage].

    Note: Also tasted on 1/20 & 2/10/18, + 7/23/19.

  • ≈40 min decant into a cylindrical, plastic pitcher

Typically, 72% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 6% Cinsualt, 1% Syrah, & 1% Carignan from 30 yr old vines grown in clay-limestone soil with cailloux

N: RIPE plums with hints of choc

P: MF body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which QUITE resolves by the LONG, balanced, ult fairly pleasant finish with glimpses of bitter/swtness to the few, firming, dusty tannins. I'm thinking the relatively full flavors of this NEED fairly substantial fare (e.g., BBQ), & should drink well through '21. 14.5%; My VG+/EXC-. [As of early Aug '19, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $24].

  • Viner i Bodø-påske; 4/18/2019-4/21/2019 (Bodø): Ripe sweet strawberry. A bit reductive smell of bananas at first but airs of. Wit beer, ripe cherry and hint of earth.

  • This wine is different to the Bandols that I have had.
The appearance is beautiful, dark translucent red shining brightly.
In the nose the wine is also very attractive with its confected bramble fruit and its whiffs of iron and forest floor.
The taste left me a bit puzzled. Medium-bodied, nicely aromatic and definitely juicy, but moderately structured and with a rather short aftertaste. Somehow burgundian and I was also reminded of the (better) Manincor Cassiano 2015 from South Tyrol, which I had lately. Starts ambitiously with a lovely nose, but in the end there seems to be not quite enough meat on the bone. Nonetheless this is still good QPR.

BRAVO !

  • Powdery nose with floral hints, licorice, dusty refined wood notes and baking spices. Dry cherry and chokeberry. Open and aromatic.
Full bodied but with only medium fruit intensity. Quite pronounced Läkerol-like medicinal licorice character, integrated wood and tight tannins. Slight herbaceous lift. Long.
Opened the night before. And the difference is striking. The quality and class is there, but definitely needs air to surface. Or years.

  • Fruit forward, mostly black raspberries. Leather and garrigue. Medium bodied, medium tannins. Drink it now.

  • Misc. Reds + 2 Shared Bottles (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Typically, 72% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 6% Cinsualt, 1% Syrah, & 1% Carignan from 30 yr old vines grown in clay-limestone soil with cailloux

N: Closed, but seems ripe, jammy

P: Med body; Rndish entry with ALMOST swtish frt met by some puckerish astringency which DOES lose most of its tannins by the LONG, ult tangy/choc finish with notes of spice. Deserves/NEEDS until Summer '19, then drinking for 3-4 yrs more. 14.5% ABV; My VG/VG+. [As of June 2018 this vendor's $21.95 was ~ $1 < anyone else listed on wine-searcher.]

  • Winebar [1 Rosé, 3 Whts, & 8 Reds] from 01/19/18 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): Typically, 72% Mourvèdre, 20% Grenache, 6% Cinsualt, 1% Syrah, & 1% Carignan from 30 yr old vines grown in clay-limestone soil with cailloux

N: LOVELY melange of blk cherries & vanilla

P: Med body; Rndish entry with LOVELY, ALMOST swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which stays in contact with the init frt as it fairly seamlessly morphs into a LONG, delightfully balanced finish with a tangy/swtness & perhaps a BIT of very, VERY slight bitterness to the few, firming, dusty tannins. Approachable now with food, this DESERVES into early '19, then drinking for 3 or 4 yrs more, I'm guessing. NICELY done! 14.5%; My EXC-/EXC. [As of early Mar '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $24].

    Addendum: Also tasted on 2/10/18 & 7/23/19.

  • Quite tannic and little fruit on this after 1 hour in carafe. But nice acidity and body. After 1,5 hours it was nice, especially with fatty foods. Had this with homemade Bernaise, French fries and entrecôte. The fruit came really out after some time. Would drink this again with food. Not without, unless in carafe for 2-3 hours.

  • Rustic Bandol with weak fruit. Dry and slightly bitter tannins. Moderate length. Probably a slightly off bottle.
