Finished 4th out of 4 tasted blind in Super Tuscan tasting (2012 Avignonesi Grifi won). Full disclosure, this wine was only opened 1hr prior, was significantly better next night.

Nose: Medium + intense, youthful aromas of red plums, blue fruits and earthy hints reminiscent of gravel and limestone. Wrapped in cedar and dark chocolate, white pepper, also some cassis. Freshness and melting jump out of the glass.
Palate: high alcohol, medium + tannins that are mature and velvety. Medium + in body, showing as a warm, ripe (almost a little too overripe) vintage. The acidity (medium) and freshness is nevertheless present. Long finish. Everything is in the right place. With more maturity, this Il Blu will develop beautifully! Potential is absolutely there in the next 7 to 10 years.

Sehr jungfruchtige Farbe, violettstichiges, dichtes Rubinrot. Sehr rotfrichtig, Weichsel, Kirsche, Himbeere. Am Gaumen druckvoll, fruchtig, tragende Säure, ein typischer Toskaner in erster Reife! Etwas anonym um wirklich gross zu werden...

Big nose, big palate, big wine. But I like it. The nose is the best part with black fruit, oak and syrup. Stylish palate, everybody will like it. Great wine.

James Suckling - Great Wines of Italy III - 2018 (The Presidio, SF): 70 merlot 25 sangio , 5 cab. 2/3 new French oak. Ripe like a Coonawarra cab with Brett. Distinct furry Brett influence. Dark green bell pepper pyrazines. Elevated acid, elevated tannins, elevated alcohol.

I bought 12 0.375 bottles, and tested the first tonight! I think a very good and successful blend sangiovese merlot cab. Very pleasant to drink also just without food! Elegant already now, which probably also improves with time!

A bit sharp, acidic for my taste. Could use more bottle age.
