Dark red in color. 14.2% ABV. Fantastic nose of red fruits, forest floor, citrus and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Dark, rich and brooding. Black cherry, black raspberry, blood orange and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. I find myself still trying to figure out the nuances of the various wines from Aston and Rivers Marie and this particular wine leans more dark fruited and richer than the others. Regardless, there is a place in my cellar for both.

Decanted for an hour first before tasting from a Riedel Oregon Pinot Noir glass. Chilled to about 60 degrees F. After an hour of decanting, I get some wonderful aromas: toasty oak, tar, and some barnyard funk notes, which I love. The flavors tend toward ripe raspberry, red and black cherry, and secondary notes of oak/tar as promised in the aroma. Delicious.

Decanted for two hours before tasting from a Riedel Oregon Pinot Noir glass. Intense nose of smoky earth and cherries plus jasmine, which surprised me. A very tempting aroma. Broad, deep palate: fresh red and black cherries, raspberry candy, and kirsch. Luscious, mouthwatering feel. Delightful.

An elegant Pinot from Sonoma. Bold with lovely red fruit, strawberry and cranberry, red currant. Some smokiness still has pronounced tannins but balanced.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. For the record, I like many CA Pinots, but am skeptical due to a sea of big, uninteresting wines out there. This big, heavy bottle is ridiculous, by the way. This is not a Burgundy-seeker's Pinot Noir but, rather, a ripe and rich, yet quite fresh and vibrant Cali Pinot. Complex aromas and flavors of mulberry, red cherry, and fragrant spice. Great acidity and lift. Really tasty stuff and I'd love to have this with some duck. No reason to not drink now.

PnP aerated with Coravin. Much more pronounced nose than the 2015 with red fruits and sweet tobacco. Tannins fairly pronounced against strong red and blue fruit, very long finish. A bit of leather and earthy flavors on the finish. Very tasty now, but I'll let my remaining bottles cellar for a few more years and expect that this will soften and show even better with a bit more age.

At opening, the nose forest floor and mushrooms. Palate is mushrooms and cherry, but as it opened up the cherry faded a bit Smooth tannins. Finish is not too long. The longer the bottle was open the nose changed more to alcohol and smoke, and pallet to dark fruit with the forest floor and leather moving in the mouth feel to the background. A very nice wine that goes well with many foods. Drinking well now.

We’ve been buyers of Rivers-Marie since the 2010 vintage so it’s not like we’re new to his style, and that’s the problem. We were judging it through the lens of our experience with the winemaker and not the vineyard.
The nose was heavy at open so I left the glass on the counter and decanted the remainder. I came back to the glass after an hour and while the high-octane nose blew off it was still a lumbering, clumsy wine. Day 2 it had settled down but I prefer my Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir to be layered and to change over the course of the session. Maybe these will get better now that TRB owns the label outright.

Dark red in color. 14.2% ABV. Brooding nose of dark fruits, citrus and forest floor. Full bodied with perfect acidity. Rich, concentrated and bursting with dark fruits. Impeccable balance. Black cherry, rhubarb, blood orange and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Delicious Pinot Noir that stands apart from the Rivers Marie lineup. I'll have room in my cellar for both. Best over the next 4-6 years.

On the nose, a bit of minerals, dark fruits, floral notes like lilac or hyacinth maybe? Very dark colored for a pinot. Juicy fruit but not overbearing, really nice acid and tannins. A nice long finish, and I got some cherry and also herbal flavors like thyme and maybe mint. Luscious and lovely!

Fairly cloudy opacity, darker and more body than your typical Sonoma PN. Nice fruit and at first seemed one dimensional but after an hour it opened up to medium acidity and a spicy finish.
A week later finishing off the coravined bottle this has jumped up a few points. First bottle was pobegad on the day of delivery so maybe needed some time to settle or maybe just a different day for my palate but this is very tasty. Cedar and berry aromas. Big mouth feel with lively minerality, dried cedar and berries and medium tannins on the finish.
