Tart, assertive currant, pie cherry, black raspberry, hint of bay leaf with fine grained tannins and racy acidity. Fruit is trending more red and maybe more tart as this ages. I offered to a guest who brought a $11 Hahn Pinot and I think this Chinon was too edgy for her. Good in small amounts for sipping but better with food that has a bit of fat, like cheese.

Russk. Marido brought to CDC at Villagio. A WOTN. Called blind as a Chinon from 2014 to 2017. Firm. Get some, but not the little brother from the same producer with the rose in the label.

Watermelon and underripe strawberry, bell pepper. M/M+ acid, M- tannins (decent grip), M- body, good mouthfeel. Pretty typical Chinon, not very complex but well built. Drinking well now and with some years left, I kinda wish I had waited a few years longer to open. 6.2-6.3/10

Rather deep ruby, 13% abv. Typical cabernet franc flavor profile of red fruit, bay leave, bell pepper and vegetal notes framed by supple tannin. Crunchy texture and smooth. After decanting for ~1hr notice a good length and relatively gripping almost puckering finish. Very enjoyable, and a delight with hard cheeses.

Had the distinct pleasure of visiting this Vineyard in September. Their hospitality was beyond and of our expectations. Have been enjoying their wine State side since. Love this and the flavor is very earthy with some very dark raspberry notes. A touch of spice provides some nice depth.

Drank in Maui, $29.95 at Wailea wine, balanced, rustic with good acid, medium bodied, drank easily, drank with grilled Mahi, good fruit, enjoyed the wine as it never got dull, would drink again if I can find it.

We are big fans of Chinon, but this one disappointed. Served at an open house and some thought it corked. I'm not as certain, but it's very one dimensional, all vegetal and green pepper. The tangy finish isn't bad, and it is almost acceptable with roast chicken. Will wait a year to try another bottle. Fingers crossed this was actually an off bottle.
At last we get to the wine that I ordered the flight for. I am a fan of Loire and always looking for an excuse to try some more. I broke the recommended order and went to this third, but I think that's ok. This is different than the other two. More cranberry, more spice, a certain tartness. The other wines in the flight felt fairly innocuous. This would def have fans and equally non-fans. I count myself in the former. I like that it's a bit different. It's not really a background wine. This could be ok without food and it could handle a few more discussions focused on it. Enjoyable.

N: Fragrant ripe berries, minerals, with notes of pyrazines
P: LM body; Nice, almost swtish frt fairly quickly met by a puckerish astringency which pretty much makes itself felt into & through the LONG, slightly puckerish, very, VERY slightly bitter finish yet with a swtness to the very, VERY minimal tannins. NEEDS another 2 yrs, then approaching its 10th IF the frt holds. My VG+, but with a DISTINCT potential for more IF cellaring tames the acidity. 92 pts WS & 91+ WA. [While competitive, this vendor's $19.95 CAN be beaten by ~ $2.]
Note: I've tasted this on 11/18/2017, 1/13/2018, 3/24/2018, & 07/28/2018, with the latest showing it to be the tightest?!? Not sure WHAT'S goin' on here... :(

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE frt met by some tangy pucker which pretty much continues through the LONG, spicy finish with a distinct tang, yet with hints of swtness. While a fellow taster felt it needs some time, for me it's approachable now, though setting it down through '18 might well be best for most, followed by drinking for 3+ yrs more! My VG+/EXC-. AMAZING QPR! 92 pts WS & 91+ WA. [While competitive, this vendor's $19.95 CAN be beaten by ~ $2.]

P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by a tangy, almost puckerish acidity & very, VERY fine tannis which slowly, fairly seamlessly morph into a LONG, almost swtish finish with a tanginess & still those very, VERY fine tannins. Approachable now with food, this DESERVES through '18, then drinking into '21 easily. IMPRESSIVE QPR, though this vendor's $19.95 CAN be beaten by ~ $2. This is a lovely fragrant Chinon, as is typically the case with Pallus. This is a great example of what the Loire Valley has to offer, demonstrating that cab franc is a grape that can stand on its own. Although I don't score this as high as James Molesworth, it is a lovely wine that is light, lithe, and displays notes of herbs and tea. A lot of upside to this wine.

Tart boysenberry, cassis, raspberry over earthy leather and tea. Soft tannins and moderately long tart finish. Good with and without food.
