From half-bottle. Kind of dull, especially next to the #5 with its aromatics. This is sweet (getting towards cloyingly so) with brown tones, and that's pretty much it. Not even very much fruit here.

Excellent bottle. Beautiful deep gold, flowery tropical nose. Honey, peach, nectarine. Good viscosity, very ripe and rich with a lot of acidity to balance out the sugars. Plenty of botrytis. Medium finish. For the Hungarians out there, this worked surprisingly well with Rakott Krumpli - who knew?

Another dessert wine that I cellared too long. Alois Kracher, who died too young, was a genius at crafting dessert wines, and it is a pity that I didn't drink this wine sooner. It had lost its magic. It was brown in color, moderately sweet, and not unpleasant, but with no more than a generic fruity flavor. It had no nuance or depth, and a short finish.

Northeast Italy (and the surrounding Parts) (Cleveland): Great showing for this bottle. Iced tea in color. The nose is great with honey, slight toffee notes, some floral notes and a bit of fruit compote. There seems to be a lot of botrytis here showing in both texture and a sugary/honeyed quality. Very clean though. Layered and complex on the palate. Some spices, honey and toffee. I don't know if this gets better, but seem like it still has years left. Great showing.

Dark orange caramel tea colored, full bodied, essence of thick chewy unctuous apricot nector, hint of honey and almond on the finish, nice balance of acidity and sweetness adds to length. http://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2013/02/otbn-2013.html

Honey, apricot purée, tangerine, toffee, basil, raisin, and so on on the nose. Tangerine, honey, raisin, apricot, and caramel on the palate. Decent acidity, though this is definitely on the sweet side. Good length. Overall, this is excellent: delicious, complex on the nose, great but not quite profound on the palate.

Mixed wines (Terkels appartment): Golden amber color. Lots of sweetness on the nose, with intense exotic fruit and botrytis, primarily overripe banana and pineapple. Oily, spicy fruit on the palate, with great concentration and amazing length. Really great finish with caramel, brown sugar and raisin. Everything is nicely balance and a striking acidity gives the wine the necessary elegance.

Quite dark color, verging on brown. Smells of dried fruit, raisins, slightly burned. Some development, sweet, lowish acidity. Long. Will age for decades.

Dark yellow color. Extremely fat and seducing. A marriage of oranges and bytrotis makes this perfect with creme brulee. My first Kracher. Won't be my last.

Riesling Mania (including a '76 and a '45) (Port Washington): too young, and way outclassed... even 20 minutes after the '64 and the '45 this was too much. BUT orange peel, sweet freh grapes, very botrytis geared wine, good length and has structure but its hidden underneeth a mamoth of sugar and fruit...keep.

Lots of sugar. Nose is spectacular apricots and pears. Pallette is glycerol and over ripe fruit. Best experienced with blue cheese or something else to work against the heavy sugar. No dessert necessary--this IS dessert. If you've got it, drink it. Had it 12 month ago and the alcohol/sugar balance was a little better.

I had to make up for the Lynfred Ice wine, so I needed something good, and this was it. Honeyed melon and spice, great balance and that beautiful mouthfeel...wonderful finish. I have never been disappointed with a Kracher, and I don't know what I'll do when Binny's finally sells out of the 1998s between $23 and $40.

This had the superior nose of the 2 wines. Absolutely fabulous. A richly concentrated wine with notes of apricot and citrus exhibiting a purity of fruit. Balanced by piercing acidity. Long caressing fresh finish. 95-96.

Top Mid-Aged Bordeaux ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Floral and dense but just slightly too simple and sweet. This was much better when last tasted a decade ago. Darker color than expected.

Chicago Wine Flock..."Top Central Coast Syrah from Rich" (House of Nanda - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Candied peach with alluringly spicy aromatics. Great concentration and intensity throughout. We did a good job identifying producer, not so good on varietal.

Rich, succulent, perfectly balanced sweetness, apricots, sultanas, nectarines, treacle, cooked apples, lots of botrytis, wax and an incredible intensity and length
