Very unique in terms of a riesling from California. Lots of petrol on the nose, which I really like in my rieslings. Lime, lemon, stone fruit like pear and white nectarine. I also get a little hint of white pepper along with wet river stone and granite. Heck, even a little lemongrass. Lots going on here with a long life still ahead of it.

Pale straw color with a yellow-green hue. Oily nose with some kiwi-lime, gooseberry, and crushed stone, with a tangy palate of some lemon, tangerines, grapefruit, and more lime. Supple finish. Still needs time, so drink 2023-2028. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 90.

white peach, crushed rock, yellow apple, honey, citrus peel, jasmine, lime and subtle spice.
not overly sweet, acid is great. takes guts to plant riesling on spring mountain and not just profit off of cabernet all day. this is probably the best domestic riesling IMO. Really refined, just give it time.

Virtual Smith-Madrone Tasting with Stu Smith: Very pale straw color with green highlights with aromatic white peach, nectarine, lemon, honeysuckle, wet stone and a hint of petrichor. On the palate it's dry and very fresh with white peach, nectarine, honey, Meyer lemon flavors accented with a wet stone minerality and citrusy long finish.

Pale clear-lemon color. Aromatics of oyster shell & chipped stone, nectarine, jasmine and white pepper. Bright and vivid on the palate, leading with succulent orchard fruit along with stony and floral depth filling out well in the mid-palate. Mouthwatering acidity, but with nicely rounded edges to the structure. Finishes full with juicy lingering fruit.

Prior tasting notes are spot on: slightly under-ripe peach, jasmine, lime, margarita salt (great descriptor!) on the nose. Drank over several hours, a honey note emerged on the palate towards the end of the bottle. Great acidity with just enough sweetness in the background to balance things out (but by no means is the wine sweet, it is a dry riesling).

What a wonderful nose with elevated florals, dried apricot, tangerine, wet stones, chalk, margarita salt and white peach. Medium in weight, the acid is racy with a lush texture. The ripe flavors hit it on tangerine, yellow peach, lime, rhubarb and tobiko. The finish goes for ages. Another brilliant vintage of this stuff, the 2015 should have a brilliant fifteen to twenty year lifespan.

Napa Valley & Chalk Hill AVA winery visits - 5/30 & 5/31, 2018: Showing aromas of stone fruit & orange rind, crushed rock, rose hips. Richly layered fruit on the palate with secondary stone, mineral, floral and light spices. Lushly textured with a nice lift of acid. Solid depth and finish. Excellent.

Light yellow. Aromas of which peaches, salted limes, chalk dust, white tea and fresh tennis balls. On the palate this is juicy and zesty with live-wire acidity that kicks off the wine and finishes it. Gorgeous peaches, nectarines and limes, with complex minerals, ocean rocks, mountain streams. Lip-smacking stuff that leaves the palate salivating. Another great vintage of this Riesling, and t will surely age quite nicely for at least a decade.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): Excellent. This is very crisp and refreshing. There's a slightly unripe or green opening to it which really more lends the wine interest. I get some lime, white flower as we continue to drink it. A well made riesling.
