A nose of dark fruit, chocolate and spice, dark garnet in color. A full bodied red, with blackberry, blueberry, cassis, dark chocolate and spices on finish, drinks like smooth velvet, drink now. www.winelx.com
Bought 2 bottles of this wine 2.5 years ago as it was a Petite Sirah and because of it being a Caymus. My first bottle was not that enjoyable so I set this one aside until now hoping it would improve. Extremely dark color as you'd expect for a PS, the wine is very viscous and drinking it reminds one of drinking cough syrup. Dark fruit and raspberry and alot of vanilla and chocolate. Not one I'd drink again.

Inky, jammy, ready to drink. It’s ok - bought it for $48 from last bottle but wouldn’t pay any more for it. Compared to Outpost’s The Other P. Syrah, this one is quiet underwhelming.

Caymus cab nose and taste initially, but quickly turned too sweet and over the top. Not enough acid and structure. I'd rather pay the extra $15 for a bottle of Caymus Cabernet.

For those of you not familiar with Durif, it is a cross between Syrah and Peloursin. It was created by Francois Durif in the early 1880s, and imported for the first time in California in 1884 where it was called Petite Sirah. The Suisun Valley is located South of the Napa Valley, within the North Coast AVA.
The wine is very well aligned with the Caymus style...but this one is a little over the top/too much. I like to drink jammy/juicy wines once in a while (e.g. Caymus and Emmolo), but the Grand Durif is just heavy and lacks the acidity to make the wine easy to drink. We weren't able to finish the bottle, the wine is a meal in itself.
As for the aromas, you get a big dose of raspberry/boysenberry jam...and that's about it. It is so rich, it feels almost syrupy/sugary on the palate. Well, I was happy to discover a new wine and a new wine region, but I'll stick to the Caymus Cab and Emmolo in the future. And I don't think this will age well...
Very fruit forward. A little on sweet and syrupy side but very good flavor. Full bodied. Decanted for 40 minutes. Would get again but not as good as a Swanson Salon Petite Syrah

This reminds me of the kind of wine I liked when I was really young and had had a long day... almost slightly sweet and comforting in a candy/pie kind of way. A little harder to drink now -- over extracted, vanilla cherry coke on the nose and something slightly medicinal. Another post mentioned rootbeer, I might say a cherry rootbeer float. Thick, mouth coating, medium tannis, slightly spicy on the finish. Caymus feels like it's consistently moving this direction, I've noticed it in the main label, this is an extreme version of the move.

Drinks like a Dr. Pepper, without the complexity. Fruit, fruit and nothing but fruit. The cherry blossom nose and floral palate were fleetingly interesting, though not really to my taste. The least tannic Petit Sirah I've ever had. Could have used some.

Massively fruit forward in classic Caymus style with big dark juicy blackberry, plum like fruit. A touch of structure but this is an unabashed fruit bomb and a perfect wine with red meat and the right mood and expectations.

- Violet color with medium forming legs and aromas of blackberry and has flavours of blackberry with a medium/full body with a long finish - Had this tonight - decanted for about an hour or so - it was deep and ruby colored - spicy notes on the back of your tongue with a very fruit forward profile it was great

- Violet color - As others have said this is a slap in your face fruit bomb. With blackberry taking over your nose. Dark fruit and vanilla with a raisin finish. This is not my type of wine but will give it a 91 for what it is. A fun, fruity, Different wine.

Pow! Bittersweet, dense, and boozy. A muscular, showy, petite syrah that manages its tannins well enough to drink young. Worth a try for something big and different.

This wine swaggers with ostentatious concentrated fruit, framed by solid structure and decent acidity. An impressive wine, but a bit over the top for me. Better with savory substantial food, like grilled pork.

Punchy, in-ya-face, take-no-prisoners, slap-yo-mama good! If you enjoy subtle finesse, this ain’t for ya. If you love an intense but balanced wine with so much fruit, look no ‘mo.

If you enjoy the Wagner style this won’t disappoint- but I felt this bottling offered more in terms on tannin and mineral presence. The nose gives away some RS, but is warm and inviting with a little pruney blackberry and vanilla. The texture is still a little syrupy but less cloying than the standard Caymus. I felt it had more authenticity and varietal typicity due to the tanning grip and mineral notes. As tooth stainers go, this is a big one.

Classic Caymus with concentrated and lush fruit. I wonder what the Wagners do to create this profile amongst all of their wines. I love this inky, well-rounded long finishing wine!

Better integrated now as thr abv doesn’t show through as much. I think this lasts at least 2-3 more years.
