Blue fruit, smoke, meaty, classic, firmly grippy, showing better concentration than a few other recent vintages. Very perfumed with air. Still not enough wine and drank too quickly. 94-95+

Fantastic. Opened this after drinking several other heavy hitters, so I don't have any detailed notes other than this was very open and expressive and super tasty.

Gorgeous CSJ, very young but with a bright future. Complex, balanced, intense, deep and long. This is a great pinot noir made for the long haul. Time will polish this raw beauty.

Tasted blind. Crunchy dense red berries, some oak and spices. Surprisingly, no sign of tannins. Plush, round, and easy to drink. Lots of potential for development, and open for drinking at the same time. Thank you Justin. 96+ potential

Touch of reduction on the nose and palate that blows off after a hour. Smokey pure cherry on the nose mixed with savory meat and pepper. Little bit oak spice on the nose. Great depth of red fruit, very weighty and powerful. Long saturating finish. Fruit profile is epic.

I would rate this wine higher if I were only looking for quintessential finesse and refinement which this Clos St Jacques embodies. Purplish red color, the nose oozes class with forest floor, spices, blueberry and dark red berries. Pure and elegant on the palate this wine is all about class and subtlety. Decently evolved given its youth and will only improve from here. Finishes long and perfumed. A real privilege.

blind had it side by side with the 09. Both CSJ are not completely convincing. The 16 is really concentrated and missing some elegance, the 09 is a bit broad with ripe cooked fruits.

Bottles drunk with lunch or dinner while in Burgundy; 2/10/2020-2/14/2020 (Burgundy): A thrilling and of course too young bottle of CSJ. Towering and layered aromas that are classic and rich Gevrey. So much meat spice. Palate has grand cru levels of concentration and layering. Cellar for 10+ years, but feel free to splurge if you see it on the list for a bargain :-)

Burgundy, Day 1 (Beaune, France): At La Maison du Colombier. The nose is stunning with a varied array of spice, earth, and fruit. Mostly on the lighter red side but there's a good amount of weight as well. On the palate this was initially quite reticent and this was one of those situations where the last glass was truly best. There is an incredible silkiness on the palate here as well, with an awesome amount of concentration. Needs time, but when you see something like this sitting on a list...

High expectations, amply met. Gorgeous, perfectly transparent ruby color. Tremendously ripe, pure, focused cranberry and a touch of raspberry, with enough sweetness to bring potentially punishing acidity into remarkable balance. Intoxicating and well-integrated oak, delivering nutmeg, marzipan, and hazelnut. A touch of vegetal character adds freshness, and some juniper berry emerges in the final whiffs. Really light on the palate, with no perceptible tannin and refreshing acidity that lingers. Everything I want in a young wine.

Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Opulent nose displaying bright generous red fruits, raspberry, cranberry, delicate red flowers, a hint of cedar/wood and earth. Excellent concentration, nicely layered bright red fruits, round, medium acidity and mineral and a long sweet red fruit driven finish. Perhaps the richest wine of the 16 Rousseau line up.

Beautifully floral, pure and precise red fruit. Lifted aromatics, just ultra refined.

Lights out, exuberantly floral aromatics with polish and none of destemmed cream notes. Beautiful, persistent red fruited palate. For the long haul.
