  • Brick throughout. Cherry perfume, raw meat, leather, soil and later, camphor. Cherry, licorice and leather palate. This is firm, gripping tannin with a good wash of acid. The finish lasts a long time.. allowing the leather and licorice notes to linger deliciously. Good for another 10 to 20 years.

There has been huge variation between bottles of Fontanafredda Barolo, all from my cellar.

  • For first hour in dencanter this appeared to be an orange tinted and sour disappointment. However, the fruit came out and complex loam and forest notes shined through. Always a little dry, however. Quite ready, and I advise consuming in next couple years.

  • Medium red/mahogany. Nose is of wood, brandy, ripe strawberries and a little licorice. Quite full bodied and silky. A little hollow and finishes crisp and firm. The structure could stand up to dinner, but the fruit wasn't there. Drink up.
