Deep red color and light nose. Still plenty of red fruits on the palate, but lacking in acidity and balance. Cherry, blackberry on the somewhat short finish, with just a bit of pepper at the end.
Decanted an hour, which muted the fruit notes slightly on the palate and all but eliminated the pepper in the finish. Admittedly, this has aged well but probably had more structure and balance when purchased in 2015 following a wine tasting dinner.

Q3 Tasting - Aged Cali (The Apt): Wine #19: Remember this one being a little bit lacking in acidity and a little bit overly fruit forward without enough of the balancing flavors. That being said, CT window much too short. This was still quite definitely going. (3 pennies)

Q3 - 2016 Tasting - Aged California Wines - Pre 2006 (New York, NY): #19 of 20 wines tasted double blind. Ruby red in the glass. On the palate this was juicy red fruits, fresh, good acidity. Tasted very youthful and bright - energizing on the palate. Just outside the top 5 for me. For the group this was tied for 10th place with 3 pennies voted.

Really coming on to it's own. Secondary flavors of tobacco, olive and forest floor. Burgess shows one again what a dozen years does to a wine. Nailed it!

Raspberry, vanilla, cedar. Full flavoured, medium body. The wine leaves an leaves an impression after the fruit finishes. That is, the licorice-like bitternss and a little heat is sustained on the palate.

Not my style, which is to say that it's an over-extracted bomb in the style I wish Napa vintners would abandon. I wish I didn't have so many of these and the '05s on hand. But Christmas gift-giving season is approaching!

soft, but well-balanced. has a quiet finish that lingers, but I won't call it a long finish as it lacks a certain fullness and strength I associate with the long finish descriptor. Would have been a fantastic food wine, but we had it as a standalone wine tonight.

Decanted for 2 hrs and drank blind with the 2005 Burgess Cab.
The 2003 has a big powerful nose of dark fruit, violets, and oak. Palate was more subdued. Fruit has started to fade some. Nice wine that is in balance.

Very dark with mouthfilling weight and uber extracted spicy dark fruit. Threw off sediment so I decanted it twice. This is a blunt instrument cab, e.g., not my style, but it's plenty good for the genre.

Sweet red fruit with some spice on the nose. Mild tannins and balanced acid with sweet red fruit and a hint of anise on the palate. More rounded with bigger flavors than previous tasting.

Deep opaque purple color. Sweet notes of lavender, strawberry and clove on the nose. Medium body and a bit heavy on tannin. Some red fruit on the palate but the predominant flavors were spice, eucalyptus and licorice.

This was given about 5 hours of air in the bottle, with tastes along the way. At first, it was closed down, but by hour 5 this was showing raspberries and flowers, but also well-aged leather. This was not as full-bodied or extracted as dinner required (pork tenderloin with a balsamic reduction), but on its own it was very enjoyable.

Drank side by side with the 1996 library selection. The '03 was interesting with some light floral notes on the nose and blackberry and black raspberry on the palate. More fruit forward but less complex than the '96. Both will not likely improve. Drink now.

Decanted for a hour. Color dark purple. Nose of dark fruits (mainly plum). Palate full bodied, bold flavors of black cherry, firm lingering finish. A solid wine to enjoy by itself. 5,13,16,6=90

Drank over two days - first day, served with filet mignon and arugula ravioli in a shallot alfredo sauce. Although a bit thin, went well with the fare. I was expecting a bit more than it offered, but everything was there albeit in lesser amounts (tannin, oak, fruit). Day two, showed a bit more on the nose, but not much life left. A good QPR ($20) and pleasant, only flaw was that it seems to be on its way down.

Almost merlot-like initial smell and body. Round, a bit silky. Some toasted brioche with a smear or blackberry preserves. Not "life-changing" (burgess 97 was). this wine has no fault beyond being delicious enough to drink as a cocktail wine.

Medium bodied, slightly ruby tinge on the rim. Hint of blackberries, sweet cassis and vanilla followed by pepper and spicy notes on the finish. Reasonably balanced, good mouth feel and tannins have melted away but the finish is abrupt and little hot which detracts somewhat. Unfortunately on the decline and I would recommend drinking up. $20.99 from WTSO. Average QPR.

Nose shows some black fruit but has a little bit of the oak monster. Cherry, blackberry, and oak are on the palate, finished with dusty tannins and medium to long finish with a touch of spice. ($15)

I really did not take notes on this one. My wife and I have always enjoyed this bottle as we have had several. Good dark color, smooth fruit and easy finish. I would say just a very enjoyable wine.

Burgess Cab was a selection I made for a commercial wine tasting last year. The wine was well received at the tasting. I was initially impressed with the balance of this wine, and after another year of bottle age, even more impressed. For a wine at this price point, you don't expect much. Great mouthfeel, with Black fruit core. Soft, almost silky tannins supported the unfolding layers of tobacco, chocolate, and cedar. I drank this wine after it had been in on gas overnight at room temp. The wine was totally open, and had a long, pleasant fininsh absent at the normal 62 degree drinking temp. A year in the cellar, really added finesse to this Napa offering. I would recommend this wine heartedly, as an every day drinker, and even for the BYO weekender.

Nose: herbal, alcohol, ripe raspberry and blackberry Taste: tea flavors on top of nice long dark cherry and berry, sweet strawberry jam (just a hint) on finish Nutshell: best sub $30 cab I've had in a long time, excellent structure w/a long finish and great, integrated tannins, subtle overtones of non-fruit flavors bolstered by darker fruit notes, I used to think Beringer cab was the best value for a sub $30 cab (esp on sale for $20), but I'd pay up $5 for this

Surprisingly good...I wish I'd bought more through the PLCB. Believe it or not, it held its own next to the Caymus '01, and truthfully it was $ better spent. Not as deep and tannic but for 65 bucks less it delivered. I'm not a big Burgess fan to boot. Thumbs up.

After a couple of years in the cellar this wine could pick up a couple more points from me. Good bargain example of a California Cab. Fruit up front, but still with solid tannins. More than I expected from a $15 bottle. Drank like a wine more than twice it's price.

Opened last night and decanted to drink today. Good mix of berries on the nose with a bit of spice, on the palate currant & berry with some oak, tannins are very evident, finish is smooth and medium in length, not a bad wine for $19.
