Covid purchase at a low price. Paired with smoked ribs and didn't take notes - wine was very nice. 92+/-
My note from '21 looks consistent with this tasting: " Black in the glass. On nose, iodine, iron, blackberry - palate was similar. Full body, medium+ acidity, low tannins with a long finish. Delicious. 92-93 range."

Placeholder for consumption. Bought on close out - loved this but could see this being too "grapey" in first year of so of release. Drank well over 2 nights - actually better on night 2. 92+/-
bought 3 more bottles

Beckmen is a very solid producer. This wine has some typical syrah character but the mid palate fills up with that California central coast fruit. Mostly dark berries in the nose with a touch of black pepper. The classic syrah features follow on the palate - feral, animal, smoke, and blue/blackberry. Long finish. The drinking window says 2020, but it is fine now, and I don't think it'll change substantially in a year.

I've been a member of the Beckmen wine club for only about 10 months, so I only have the 2015 version to compare this to. That said, this has to be a very successful vintage for this wine. Very dark and dense, with tears that cling to the glass long after swirling. The nose is moderately intense with warm blackberry, overripe plums (leaning toward prunes, but not in a bad way), evergreen and a slight whiff of sweet cigar smoke. The palate is rich with dark fruit and a long, mocha-laced finish. The Aussie origins of this clone are apparent. The wine is very distinctive and totally different from other syrahs from Ballard Canyon. It's very young and maybe a bit grapey at this point, but very accessible and enjoyable already.

Fruit dominates but does not overpower. A hint of oak leaves on the finish. This likely has years of life left to it.

Decent but not stellar. A little too earthy.

Futures tasting. Aromas of blueberry, blackberry, smoke and mocha. On the palate I'm getting smoke, more dark fruit and a mocha finish. Solid.
