Rutherford Grove Winery Tasting - August 2012 (Rutherford, California - Napa Valley): Medium garnet with brick red tint color, and blackberry, cassis, and cacao aromas. On the palate, it's light-medium bodied with good acidity, and blackberry, cassis, and hint of vanilla flavors. Medium-long finish. 99% Cabernet Sauvignon/1% Petite Verdot

Last bottle. 3rd time I have had it. Drank with Anwar and Trigirl. Red with a brown rim. Floral and some skunky aromas. Notes of pencil lead and earthy fruit. Past it's prime. My lowest score on this wine. Grossie would like this more than I did. 87 points.

My Wifes Birthday Dinner: Served with the 4th course at dinner over the weekend which was grilled Oscypek (a smoked Polish sheeps milk cheese) with a Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout and fresh raspberry reduction. I was worried about how this would turn out but the reduction was better than I thought it would be. Full nose. Loaded with fruit. Firm tannins give this some grip at the end. Notes of black tea, cassis and leather. A very unique course and pairing but it worked out alright. 90-91 points.

Subtly pleasant from first taste, and got more delicious as it opened up. Nice earthiness, slight oak. Delicious. The kind of subtler cab that I suspect I may eventually grow to prefer to the more in-your-face taste of the Franciscan.

Tried at at a blind vertical tasting of 1999 Cal Cabs. I thought this was the fruitiest of the Cabs. Notes of creammy vanilla, plum and candied cherry. Full bodied. Integrated tannins with a round finish. My favorite of the evening. 93 points.

Very nice. Not too young - not too old. Very robust with lots of classic cabernet flavors.

Eucalyptus medicinal nose. Delicious chocolate, cherry and cedar flavors. Expansive and silky. A bit round. Superb value for around $29
