Friday at the strand (Strand Cellars, Croydon): Quite lanolin, wax polish, a little herbal underpin and lemon peel and pith. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity, the citrus goes hand in hand with that herbal underpin. Fairly short with a little chalky texture on the mid palate. Meh.

Crisp and modestly acidic, with white flowers and white fruit, pleasant finish. Paired well with Pad Kee Mao, but not as well as Donnhoff’s estate Riesling, ‘16.

Bibendum Portfolio Tasting 2019: Apple and pear on the nose. Sweetness shows through on the palate, though it has decent balance. Medium length, give this a couple more years?

Okay - I've had this a few times since it was released and I think it was definitely better younger. Made from purchased grapes, so I guess to a degree Chidaine was limited by the underlying material somewhat. Drinkable, but not much more than that at this point.

Really enjoyable Chenin. This is definitely less acidic than the Loire examples from Chidaine, but has a nice full palate with nice fruit and a touch of minerality. Quite good length. Based on the price, I would be happy to buy this every year if he decided to make it again.

Funny seeing Bob H's note now. I just opened this after an oxidized 2014 Bournais. I'll have to look and see if his was a 14, too. I enjoyed this tonight, but it was a little more simple than I remember. Pleasant, easy going Chenin.

After that flawed Bournais, I decided to open another Chidaine that I had chilled. Lighter in the glass than the Bournais; fairly neutral nose.
Nice Summer white - glad I have more of this, as it's the kind of wine for hot days out on the deck. IMO, not the kind of white to consider aging; interestingly enough, more acidity present here than with the Bournais, but that may just be the dulling effect from the flawed bottle.

I wasn't sure what to expect here given this is from purchased grapes and not a normal bottling, but this is pretty tasty and very easy to drink. I might be the outlier here, but I think there is enough acid, and there is a dry and tart quality that I like on the back end. Sort of like a sweet/tart. Good QPR.

A light yellow-green in the glass; crisp, but reticent nose on this popped and poured wine.
Pretty tasty - maybe a little less acidity than I would prefer, which gives the wine a rounder feel, but other than that minor complaint, this is very easy to drink. Perfect aperitif for out on the deck once the weather turns nicer/sunny.

SLDS March 2018: Apple, yellow florals, slate and peach on the nose. Nicely balanced on the palate with light weight fruit and a touch of sweetness. With good length, this is quite delicate and a few years won't hurt it.

Sourced from Limoux, apparently because of difficulties with the 2016 vintage, this makes two immediate impressions: Too ripe to be from the Loire, and Wow!...powerful salinity! A great expression of ripe fruit crafted by an artisan; the wine shows that the winemaker worked with, not against, the source material available to him. Palate-coating generosity, compelling finish. 89-90.

Chenin Blanc aromas with lime and honey. Quite full bodied and juicy. Lacks the complexity and concentration of Chidaine's best wines.

Stars of the Loire (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Apples an lemons married to chalky minerality and wet stone over a very slightly honeyed note. More green apple on the palate with some chalky burr, okay.
