At the open: Smells of sweet fruit, dust, rhubarb, cold stones, and menthol Tastes of tart bramble fruit (strawberries) with high acidity
After 90 minutes: Smells of faint red fruit and earthy mildew Tastes of dark scratchy earth and light red fruit (raspberries)
Medium bodied
This is a very nice production, offering a more feminine side than the 2015, 2016, & 2017 Hardscrabble offerings. A Burgundian character to the palate with plenty of acid.

Crisp acid, which made the fruit burst, black currant, tiny bit of green pepper, fine tannins on the finish, intense aroma made me feel like I was at the winery.

81% CS, 19% Merlot. Splendid ripeness without a truckload of alcohol (12.6%). Dark and brooding black red, nose of cassis, currants, oak spice, mocha, and a lovely amarena cherry/plum palate, textured with dark chocolate. There is a lot of tread left on the tannins, but they are chewy and not bitter. This shows beautifully now but will be astounding by 2020. More perfumed and with richer textures than most petite chateaux in Bordeaux and will compete well against some classed growths. In terms of style, think of a 2012 Leoville Barton 92-94.

Cedar box, stewed plums
A little bitey on the first day, mellowed nicely by day 2.
