Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Savoury with red berries, strawberry underpin, slight sweet spice, well controlled whole bunch. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, fleshy, a little textured burr, lightweight. Pretty nice.

Medium ruby red, interesting nose with hints of mint and for mine, France (funky barnyard). Deliciously complex, rich and balanced. Good acid, minimum tannin. So much going on. Delicious.

As far as aromas goes, it’s unmistakably Australian, you cannot miss the minty, Eucalyptus notes. Some herbs, sour cherries add interest. Built almost like a Pinot Noir, there is an unforced feel to it – definitely not an extracted style, though it’s still kind of full-bodied. And it’s full of flavor too, pretty intense on the palate. Good acidity, but it’s not too tannic – I would like it even more with a bit more tannins and structure. Quite a pure, modern wine without being funky or dirty, it’s easy to like.

Beautifully balanced wine. Crunchy and lip smackingly juicy. Good complexity. Lovely length.

Young gun of wine peoples choice award 2018 (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Funky, spicy, slightly stalky, peppery, muted red and black fruit. Juicy, tangy, peppery black over red fruits, tight but softly textured tannins, balanced. Long. Very good indeed.

East End Wine Down (Adelaide): Heady blackberry fruit, sharp green forest note; nice palate; bit lacking in acidity.
