nice BdB nose, chalky with citrus as much as orchard fruit and some spring flowers. This more about acid, soil and clean fruit than autolytic notes. Finely textured bead with an admirable sense of clarity and focus. Overall, a very good low dosage BdB bubbles that has come into its own and showing much better than my last bottle in 2017 that left me nonplussed. Finishes clean and fresh. Solid, middle of the fairway BdB.
Medium-fullish nose. Quite rich and fruity. Citrus, oystershell and a hint of toast. Balanced and quite elegant. Medium-fullish palate. High acidity. Yellow orchard fruit, toast, nuts and citrus. Balanced and elegant. But lacks some complexity and intensity.

Clean and elegant, this was minerally, buttery and very dry. Fully mature but one can’t miss the freshness. There was a hint of mushrooms too as this effortlessly demonstrated a complex lingering finish. Superb and classy. CHP 94 pts

After drinking a bunch of wines that don’t show up well in hotel rooms (or at kids dance competitions) this was wine of the week. Honey, florals and apples on the nose, lean acidic mineral palate with apple and citrus. Delicious and will only get better!!
From magnum. Straw color, medium fineness on the mousse. The aromas seem quite young still, with citrus and yellow apple and a touch of mineral. The palate is medium-light bodied and has a touch of malic acid notes: crunchy green apple acidity and lime zest. With air and as it warms to, say, cellar temp rather than fridge temp, it shows a broader palate feel and a hint of more maturity. The finish reprises the apple notes and while nice and grippy, isn't terribly complex. This seems on the younger end of its maturity curve, to me, especially out of magnum, and I suspect it will show more complexity in 5 years or so.

Golden yellow, fine mousse, nose of yeasty brioche and savory notes. Medium full body, very fine attack of minerality and dried flowers, a touch of aged characteristics from the extended lees contact, medium long finish. There was a hint of bitterness on the finish initially but went away after some air. Very tasty already and definitely can age more.

I drank this for the first time around two years ago, and it was still far too young (probably very recently disgorged, too); decided to give it another chance with some more bottle age. It still gives a high mineral expression: a lot of chalk, with all types of wet stones; very mineral, with mature citrus fruits such as lemon, lime, and grapefruit; we also found some pears and Granny Smith apples; later, with more air, it showed a young lactic side with milk, butter, and young comté cheese; on the finish, not necessarily oxidative, but it did show some light toasted notes of toasted bread and mixed nuts. Our experience with this producer shows that the wines require 10+ years’ bottle ageing before they can be truly enjoyed. This 2008 is just starting to offer some enjoyment, although if I had any more bottles I would certainly hold them for another 3-5 years; the acidity is still very high, and there are no signs of maturity yet. 89pt

Beautiful wine, haunting. Has great richness and aromas of pasta water with floral and citrus notes. Best to wait a few more years, but very lovely now.

This Champagne has a lovely pure, crystalline quality to it. There are notes of lemon, orange blossom, chalk and brioche. It is fine, detailed and voluminous, with a creamy mousse and the finest of beads. Balance is exquisite.

Book Club: Wine & War (Twist Fells Point): Wow... This is another wine that exceeded the expectations that Cellar Tracker had given me. Drank from a white wine glass. On the darker side of yellow with great ripe fruit nose. Not particularly bubbly (maybe due to the glass). Coated the mouth in a lush way without being overly sweet. Subdued acidity. Not sure this had much development left but great now. Delicious.

What a great way to start the weekend. Beautiful colour showing the age. Wonderful on the nose with dark toasted notes, ripe yellow fruit. Still vivid and kicking in the mouth. Second bottle will have to rest quite a few more years. One of the clear highlights from an evening of too much Champagne, it likely stood out because of its bright, focused profile. Salty, minerally, crisply fruity and with a long, yet precise finish, it seems to have its power in reserve. It’s a fun wine to drink now, yet appears to have a long development curve.

Terry Theise Grower Champagne Tasting (Plum Market - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Clearly a step up from NV Cuvee Cuis, this shows the precision and brightness of 100% Chardonnay. Also in a bready style, perhaps also slightly tart for now. Will benefit from time in the cellar. Good for its level and price.

Book Club - Magnumfest; 4/25/2017-4/27/2017 (The Winery, Newport Beach, CA): Blind from Mag. Guessed a grower champagne but that was about it. I thought it might be pinot muenier, nope. Very light yellow. I really enjoyed this with plenty of brioche and tart red apple aromas. Very intriguing nose. I liked the palate even more, red and green apple with medium/high acidity and a vibrant mouthfeel. Finishes very clean, bright, and edgy with lemon rind.
Note: Mike O. guessed this producer.

Poured from mag. I enjoyed this when first poured, but it seemed tired when I had a second glass. Lemon peel, light chalk and a mix of yellow/green apple, finishing with saline. Huh, seemed pretty dialed in. Yet, when I tasted again and after some air perhaps, the finish became soft, lacking complexity and just seemed overall, well, soft and lacking energy. Aside from the Special Club, which I have bought and do continue to enjoy, I have been not impressed with Gimmonet's other stuff, like Gastronome, and now it seems, Fleuron.

Great stuff this! Fine nose with butter, rubber hints, green apples, lots of minerals and ocean spray. Palate is just lovely, and lively! Fine fruit, green apples and lemons, with lemon oil and some zest. Great acidity showing, refreshing and with a marvelous cut & bite. I loved this, and again, 2008 is so much more than just a hype. Needs time still. (91 - 93+)

(Disgorged in fall of 2015) Nice yellow colour with a fine stream of bubbles to spread the lovely hints of butter, nuts and caramel on the youthful nose. Palate shows youthful acidity mixed with mature apples and grapefruit in the long bitter finish. This is drinking very nicely and will probably evolve nicely with some more years of cellaring. Best 2018-2028. 91p.

(Disgorged in December 2015) Starts off with some lovely notes of minerals, hazelnuts and seashells. Sadly the palate feels a bit muted, and is dominated by lemon acidity with a rather short finish. It's not as good as many other cuvées from this producer, and feels disharmonious right now. I'm not sure, but I hope a few more years will tone down the lemon acidity and give it more body.

Fresh and bright apéritif champagne. But - a synthetic tutti-frutti aroma component shouldn't be found in a vintage grower champagne. Didn't improve overnight either. Lost interest. Okay, but way too expensive for what's in the glass. Won't buy again.
