Somber red fruited scents, with turned earth, some wood, followed by red fruits, dense and grippy mid palate with fiery tannins from ferrous soils, ending in a persistent take no prisoner finish. At this stage still a rough gem lacking brilliancy, but all the underlying materials are there. A long snooze in the cellar is necessary.

Nose of roses, dark fruits and cherries. No funk. The palate is fresh and delicious, showing some elegant oak, nice sweet fruit with good depth, good acidic lift, and excellent persistence. There are a lot of tannins, but they are super ripe and very well managed. This should age wonderfully for decades. 93-94

The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Light red. All soil on the nose. Medium weight. Excellent sweetness of tart red fruit, then a long earthy finish. Very satisfying, reasonably accessible young, and much more complete than the 2014.

Musique & Vin Festival BYO Dinner (Château du Clos de Vougeot): Small glass from a magnum directly from the Domaine. Black, red, and blue berries with good+ weight, savory spice and overall good harmony. Good now, certainly with further upside. I liked this much more today vs when last tasted just after release.

90 min decant. Bright brick red color, with subtle rim fade. Black cherry, cinnamon, pomegranate, blueberry, and subtle pistachio on the nose. Smooth, dry, full bodied (for a Pinot) palate. Firm, lower intensity tannins on the longish finish.

Attractive nose, very pure, red berries, cherries, spicy, glossy. On the palate good concentration, ripe fruit, nice mineral core, well integrated tannins. Slightly spicy and quite vibrant towards the long finish. Youthful, but really well made. 92-93+

Pale ruby colour. Pronounced nose with developing notes of vanilla, earth, forest floor, cooked red plum, tobacco, toast, cedar, charred wood, cranberry, strawberry, black plum, green bell pepper. Dry, high acidity, medium+ tannin, medium alcohol, medium+ body and flavour intensity. Long finish.

Surprisingly rich with a big whack of black cherry fruit and some of that “medicinal reserve” or pine sap. A blast of powdery tannins let’s you know that his has the stuffing to age (as you would expect). What I didn’t expect was how enjoyable it was right now.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Complex array of blue, black and red berries with spice hints and very refined tannins, but finishes with sneaky power. Just needs a few years in the cellar. 89-90 point potential.

Pearl of Burgundy 2016 en Primeur tasting (Hong Kong): Looking at the 2016's shown at this tasting, the new generation (Gregory Gouges) is clearly managing tannins better and push fore more refinement. Kudos! Denser, dark fruit, very polished tannins, good energy, mid palate presence.

This is fantastic. Grand cru level drinkability and not super austere. If red burgs are your thing this is one not to miss! Very balanced.

Nose was closed.
Can't help but write that this is overpriced oak infused juice.
Rich oak purple blecch.
