Full to medium bodied and feminin Ribero. Partly due to the 6 years of age. Nose is quite light with some cherries and spices. Palate with tempetanillo sweet notes, some tobacco and hints of oak, fresh acid with tannins getting low but still some strugling strengt. Medium lenght. Not much complexit therefore not difficult to balance well :-)

Unfortunately for this wine, it follows three stellar wines tasted over the past couple of days (2 Bordeaux and 1 Italian); this just doesn't measure up, even taking into account the price difference. Good dark cranberry color. Nose with some red fruit but a bit stemmy. Kind of high-toned in the mouth, acid keeps the fruit a bit too much in check, at least at this young age. Might be better down the road but for now just a bit too woodsy and austere for my taste. 5-12-14-7: 88/100.

Pretty good for the money. Opaque dark, dark red. Nose is shy but still reveals nice red fruits. Mouth is similar, though with black fruits more in abundance. Fairly strong, rich and tannic, this should age nicely. Still, approachable today. 5-12-15-8: 90/100.
Too young now, better to wait a few years. Good fruit but some youthful harshness. Improves somewhat a couple of hours after decanting. Goes reasonably well with appropriate food. Drink starting 2021 or 2022.

This shows a lot of promise for those that have patience and cellar space. I am tempted to buy a few and hold for 3-5 years. At the moment it's just too tannic for me.

There is written evidence that the first vines were planted on the Villacreces Estate in the 13th Century. During the 14th Century, the vineyard was run by Saint Pedro de Villacreces and later on, became a monastery. In 2003 the Anton family, owners of Rioja Bodega Izadi and one of Spain’s most famous Michelin starred restaurants in the Basque country, purchased the estate and invested in revitalizing both the estate and the vineyards. The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. It smells like blackberry, blueberry and black pepper. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. It smells like cherry and black pepper. It tastes like cherry and black pepper. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes short. The wine has low acidity.

Contrary to some other reviews I found the wine to be very unremarkable with absent tanins and lack of grippiness on the palate. Pleasant but I drank as more a weak bodies wine even though it isn’t. For those that like a lighter tasting red from Spain and find others too big and bold by contrast, this might be for you.

Pruno 2016 Ribera del Duero Quintanilla de Onésimo 9€ - 10€ retail This village on the banks of the river Duero makes and bottles some of the best value red wine in Spain. Very good quality supermarket own-brands of Ribera del Duero bottled in Quintanilla de Onésimo can be found for 3 to 5 euros a bottle. This 2016 estate-bottled offering from a recently established private bodega is very impressive; aged for 12 months in French oak, light to medium bodied, gently tannic, juicy berry fruit integrated with clean wood, medium length finish. Lacks some complexity and character but very enjoyable.

Approximately 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Black plum and cedar oak aromas from the cork. In the glass, this has a medium+ intensity nose with smoky black licorice, black cherry, oak spice, and cassis with hints of earth and black plum aromas. It's medium-bodied on the palate with grippy, muscular tannins and fresh acids lifting the black cherry, blackberry, currant, and oak flavours. Drying mid-palate. Long finish with earthy and smoky elements, and just a touch of chocolate bitterness. Solid wine that needs 3+ years of cellar time.

Very few hints of Tempranillo in this bottle. It tasted more like a red blend from Washington. How could they do that to our favorite grape?

Medel+ tät, rödlila.
Stor fruktig doft av mörka bär, örter och med rostade toner.
Fyllig smak av mörka bär. Tydliga men fina tanniner. Hög syra. Balanserat. Medel+ långt fruktigt och varmt slut.
Mycket gott och prisvärt.

Lots of fruit and freshness.
Peaks now or in the next 1-2 years, but will last at least 3-5 years.
