Owen Roe DuBrul Vineyard Vertical Tasting (My House): Wow, what a fruit bomb! Gobs of cherry fruit showing from this hot vintage wine. Started to get a bit overwhelmingly sweet once it had a couple hours of air under it's belt. Past it's prime, but was a crowd favorite for the lush fruit alone.

Decanted 30 min, mostly for sediment. Nose of aged Cabernet...plums, tobacco, earthy bramble. Flavors show lots of secondary notes: Earth, tobacco, plum fruit, and a sweet glycerin finish. Very light acidity and tannin structure. This is clearly on it's decline, but should continue to be enjoyable for a year or two. Drink now.

This is my last '02 Owen Roe Dubrul Vineyard Cab Sauv in my celllar; we again all enjoyed its strong, yet balanced flavor of berries and chcolate; lengthy finish that remained for some time; its time to drink this one now; but what a treat it is!

Cambridge University / CellarTracker Dinner (Pembroke College, Cambridge): Woof - this stood out like a sore thumb amongst the other wines of the night - massive sweet nose, chocolate and some heat, but over time this settled down to reveal more nuanced notes of spices, menthol and dark chocolate. In 10 years this will be excellent. Very good now, but not a food wine to be honest.

This was a really terrific bottle of wine to share with good friends; we all thought it was full, complex, but smooth and lingering on the palate; a big wine!

Crushed berries and chocolaty aromas with a touch of Ethyl acetate like volatile smells. The palate is VERY intense and concentrated. Tannins are OH so silky and the finish lasts for minutes... From Dubrul Vineyard in the Rattlesnake hills in Northern Yakima. Grown at roughly 600m altitude in dry sandy soils and cropped at around 1 ton an acre. This is my favorite Cabernet made in the US.

So soft and smooth, a perfect red for a warm summer evening. Balanced and mature, brick edges in the glass but not a hint of oxidation.

Still youthful and fruity - soft tannins with light oak and vanilla. Softened even further as it sat in the glass. Lovely!

Previous descriptions are spot on, but there is more than a hint of smoke to this wine, which is unique. Very solid.
