  • The joy of crossing paths with well aged Raveneaus is an experience we cherish a new try really hard to. And this time like before it did not fail us.
17years young, and albeit not glossy in colour still it was shining, nose still had the last few kisses of oak complimenting the well matured fruit. We expected it to be less fatty given a premier cru but this had actually a lot of weight, soft honey notes too. Such a great wine and an easy 94-95 here and with a lot of life ahead.

  • Jamie's DC visit Barolo and Barbaresco: Medium expressive nose displaying very ripe yellow fruit, passion fruit, dry peach, lemon curd, honey, burnt sugar, beeswax and a hint of limestone mineral. Good concentration, deeply toned ripe yellow fruit, a bit heavy and cloying, and a medium long very ripe yellow fruit driven finish with burnt sugar at the end. I am hoping that this is a bit advanced example.

  • Raveneau's 2005 Montmains wasn't a great wine in its youth but it shows how well this master of Chablis can age, with a beautiful nose of acacia honey, crushed stone, and lemon. The palate is similarly flavored but unfortunately much less intense, moderate-low concentration and length. Great acidity still. Drink now.

  • Served blind. My mind wondered between Northern Rhône, Burgundy - and Napa Chardonnay; bees wax texture was the most prominent factor, the acidity finally made me guess Burgundy 2004 - though not Chablis. This is full bodied, round, vibrant and a point right now I thinks. Minerals galore og compåared t the Drouhin le Clos, that we enjoyed together six months ago - this is much better. • Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Ripe for Raveneau Chablis with good+ weight, just less minerally or texturally nuanced than I'd prefer or expect, certainly less so than Forests. Still, certainly enjoyable.

  • HDH Burgundy Auction; 5/17/2019-5/18/2019 (Chicago, IL): Even riper than the Forets tasted alongside, with a bit of a caramel thing that I just don't like. Sweet kettle corn thing going here, and while there's a hint of acidity and salinity, it's not enough to cut through that ripeness.

  • Medium golden fruit starting to show secondary characteristics. Pretty apple/pear and spice. Very drinkable but lacking strong Chablis footprints. Wished for more stone/salinity.

  • Giallo ambrato, invitante e suadente.

  • Decanted and poured, this wine continues to show well. It is currently at or around its peak and should continue to drink well for at least the next 4 to 5 years.

  • At first this is a piece of toast, liberally slathered with lemon butter. As it breathes it tightened and emits a gorgeous perfume of citrus blossom and oyster shell. It is rich and textured yet precise with great rocky detail. The finish is direct and length of flavour admirable.

  • Lightly intense straw in colour, with even a greenish tinge. An earlier bottle opened for the Raveneau tasting I organized earlier this year was quite horribly corked and the cork on this one smelled iffy as well… However, the wine seemed fine at first and offered up medium-plus intense, sweet yellow fruits like tinned peach, some mentholated lift and a hint of impurity, manifesting itself as a slight feral stink. Some oxygenation add a more typical note of lemon rind. Medium bodied and impressively concentrated –a common thread so far– the acidity is initially medium-plus/minus before gaining momentum after five minutes. This has a positive effect on the by now medium-plus intense flavours of lime, creamy lemon curd and quinine minerals, but after a while the latter develop some peaty overtones. Furthermore, this bottle seems to lack a little sparkle or vivacity. The finish still does about half a minute and while this showing warrants 89 points with one extra for potential, doubts remain. Indeed, after two hours in the fridge the dreaded TCA demon rears its ugly head, albeit very slightly. I am now two for two on this bottling as far as corkedness goes, but this is my last one. I'm praying my Montée de Tonnerre and Chapelot are sound at least… TN Mike de Lange

  • The cork smelled iffy upon popping, but the nose was medium-minus intense and quite exotic with notes of ripe nectarine, blanched almonds and a chlorine streak of minerals. The medium-plus body and ditto acidity reluctantly give way to a decidedly reticent mid-palate, or are things being suppressed by the dreaded TCA monster? The finish makes it to the half minute mark regardless. At 2.45AM there is no doubt that this wine is corked and unfortunately I only had the single bottle… Drat!.........TN Mike de Lange

  • Outstanding showing for this wine. Decanted and poured, this wine showed improvement over a bottle tasted earlier this year. On this occasion, the wine seems more complete, harmonious and detailed. The bouquet shows oyster shell, lemon zest, floral and mineral notes. At times it shows a richer, vanilla note that for the most part does not detract from the bouquet. The wines remains a vibrant, light yellow color. The light/medium bodied palate shows outstanding balance and above average length. The refined palate easily contains the richer components of the wine. There is ample acidity on the finish, giving the wine a defined and precise feel. This could benefit from additional bottle and time and should drink well for at least the next three to five years.

  • Decanted and poured, this wine initially showed some disjointed elements on the bouquet and palate that resolved with about fifteen minutes of airing. The wine shows well but does not display the focus and nuance of the recently tasted '05 Raveneau "Vaillons". This is still outstanding stuff and it may benefit from additional bottle age.

  • Fava celebration dinner Scott Kate and gang -- Showing absolutely great, interestingly more juicy and fruity that Raveneaus I am used to. Wow, what ethereal spearminty seashell and honey.
