Better than my 1st bottle. Easy drinking red that feels more basic than it should. Almost too polished and avoidant of any classic Cabernet character. Unsure if this will develop any further.

In the nose lots of blackberry, blueberry cedar, e’et tobacco. Mature, rounded tannins, juicy, reasonable aftertaste. A very well produced and drinkable Bdx.

Red fruited and a little more thin than I remember from my initial tasting in 2020. Could be in a phase, or could be more similar to the early drinking 2013 vintage. For now this is best paired with lighter foods.

This fairy-tale Château, surrounded by a beautiful park, is situated in the southern Haut-Médoc not far from Bordeaux-City. Due to the large production (about 250 thousand bottles/year) this cru classé is widely available, the quality is generally good to very good but seldom sensational and the price always very reasonable (this cost me 22,5€ in 2020). I have very fond memories of vintages 1989, 2009 and 2010. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with about 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot this is for me one of the least interesting vintages I drank so far. With a bouquet of cedar and new oak and on the palate red fruit, this is certainly not a bad wine but the middle-taste is hollow and the aftertaste short with, for me, a disturbing dominant acidity. I fear that this wine has not enough stuffing for a favourable evolution in the future.

Violet, savoury, smoky, toast, vanilla, cinnamon, blackcurrant, cassis. On the palate, sweet oak, spice, red currant. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. Well balanced, not super complex but harmonious and enjoyable.

Typical bouquet, particularly for this forward, early-drinking vintage. Light to medium bodied, excessive oak relevant to substance. Technically excellent, modestly price, and easy to enjoy. Drink by 2030 or so.

Poured several ounces and allowed the wine to breathe. Typical bouquet, oak beginning to integrate. Correct. Medium body and substance, quite well balanced. Somewhat underwhelming for a Classed Growth. More rustic than the same vintage Prieuré-Lichine and Montrose.

At first very elegant and bright red fruit with raspberry notes dominate. The palate develop more red fruit and finish long and soft but leaves a bitter streak in the middle that lower the score.

Nice, open, approachable, some herbs, good cassis-fruit, easy-drinking style; the punters preferred Château Pierrail 2016, if that says something. Brought by MH #Samsø#Bjørnvig

Underwhelming for the house, regardless of vintage. Purple fruit and Cabernet Sauvignon markers on the bouquet and palate. Quite linear. The middle leaves something to be desired. The oak treatment is disproportionate to the modest substance. Will hold the other bottle for several years. Improvement seems possible.

Deep dark core, dark purple hue, compact rim. Youthful.
Smoky aromas right up front. Cassis, dark cherry, sea breeze, thyme and rosemary spices.
Palate is dense but not tannic. Quite approachable now. Medium plus acidity, medium body. Dark and ripe fruits, Cassis, blackberry, dark plum. Graphite, good mineral notes, cedar oak components such as vanilla bean. Round and long.
Cantemerle has always been my go-to Tuesday night classified growth Bordeaux. Never disappoint. Early drinkability. Give it at least half an hour but really good to go now until 2032. 90.

Vinturi-decanted and allowed three hours prior to sampling, this wine's opaque ruby/crimson color belies its medium body and easy accessibility. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot (aged for 12 months in French oak, 40% new), it delivers a neat package of black currants, fig, dried herbs and graphite. The tannins and oak are soft and the alcohol (listed as 13%) is nicely integrated. Unfortunately, at this point in its evolution, it hollows out on the middle palate and closes short-to-medium. This will likely benefit from more cellar time, but the building blocks are not in place for it to ever be compared with the best Cantemerle vintages. Drink 2023-2030.

Fresh and light fiery wine with blackberries, against plum skin, leather and licorice. Medium-bodied and fresh wine with a nice combination of juiciness and austerity with cool blackberries, cool fruit peel against the purple, light herb and leather tones. Good acidity and good bite in the tannins. Not detailed in the vintage, but this is still a good wine with an upside for the next 10 years.

Barrel sample at BB&R 2017 en primeur tasting. A very good wine in the context of the vintage. Good body, excellent balance, good length. Underrated by most critics and a good price at £123/6 ib.

Floral in nature, the fruit is ripe, crisp and even a bit sharp, but the tannins are soft and there is a lot of juicy, sweet fruit in the medium bodied, berry-filled finish.

Still a bit young and tannic. I'll let them sit two more years. I guess this will be elegant and fine in a few years time.
