  • Acker BYO 2018 (Tribeca Grille): What I think of when I think of a Burg. Pretty and light and elegant.

  • Just when I had been complainig recently to colleagues about the frustrations of my sporadic journeys into Burgundies, this Friday-dinner-at-home bottle comes along and the timing could not be better. The cork is on the dry side, but unfortunately still does not come out in one piece. In the glass the wine is still showing a surprisingly dark garnet in the middle, lightening towards a transparent rim. Not the bright, strawberry and red fruit dominated nose one gets to see so often, this is fairly dark and complex. Great balance on the palate, earth, red and dark fruit, a bit of sous bois, even a touch of something like soy sauce (?). Light to medium tannins and a perfect acidity give this a very nice composure. Medium to long finish. Fantastic wine. 93-94

  • Brilliant garnet colour. Fresh nose, lingering bouquet also in the empty glass. Classic rich and firm flavours of ripening red berries. Very classy. Stored in a very good cellar 10+ years with excellent result.

  • The cork was in great condition, no seepage to the end. The color was ruby-garnet and fairly dark at 16 years age. This one is ready to drive. The aromatics were full throttle, beaming from the glass. Time and time again, I open older bottles and realize that it is a crime to drink them young. OK, side point, you need to taste them young, and old, and in the sweet spot, because you don't know when any particular wine is going to surpass itself. Last night, this one was firing. The more I taste the wines of Dominique Laurent, the more I realize what a steal they are in terms of pricing. This wine was balanced, full of fruit, some spice, and had enough tannic kick to get your attention. The aromatics are secondary at this point, not so much mushroom and cedar, but more roasted blackberry and Bing Cherry.

  • Highly perfumed on the nose with notes of pine needle sap, sweet earth, camphor, red currants and dried flowers. Sweet, dense and chewy in the mouth with a lovely floral thread and a sinewy finish. Drinking very well with plenty in reserve.

  • decanted for 1 hr to allow the wine to open up, very slight bricking, once it had aired a little ther nose gave a wonderful mix of cherry and evolved mushroom notes, crisp acidity, bright cherry fruit with a little secondary flavour coming in, clean, elegant and still plenty of life in it, a really lovely wine

  • Nose and flavors of red dried fruit. Oak really well integrated. Some classic earthy charm is starting to emerge. Fruit, acid, tannins are in great balance. Great, long finish. Very well done.

  • Ruby-red. Funny medicine-type scent coming out of the glass. Aha. This is classic Pinot Noir. Noticed the pencil-shaving scents after having been fooled by a sort of "hot-peppar" shade. Super-soft and flowy in the mouth. A good beam of fruit-acid sweeping across the tongue, but not in an astringent manner. Delicious.
