  • Collab review with Anne of the vineyards….
Anne says nose is that of a musty cave and blackberry and plums
Taste surprisingly bright with blackberry with a smooth finish

We give the wine a 94 and her review a 100

  • Just a beautiful purple with magenta edge….
Nose is blueberry boysenberry, gravelly chalk
Flavor has blackberry, cassis, pronounced graphite
Finishes with cherry blackberry, and the tannins balance the fruit perfectly…
It’s a big wine but handles itself well

  • 2 years since my last bottle. And a very nice bottle of wine - easy drinker. Just lacking any kind of "wow" factor that you would expect at this prince point.

  • Nice cherry notes. But tongue gripping tannins on the back end. The tannins here need some time to (hopefully) integrate more.

Most of the 2016's from Napa that I have had have been ready to go out of the gate. But a few I have had, like this one, seem to be following a more normal progression in their development cycle. But this is one bottle that I would wait a few years before popping another one.

  • Fantastic Start and nice mouthfell, but currently a bit dry and chalky on the finish. May improve with time, but maybe not...

  • 30 min decant in the glass. Deep opaque garnet. Nose and taste of muted charcoal, black cherry, tart raspberry, maple and notes of cocoa and earth. Full flavor but not a fruit bomb. Some chalkiness on the finish. Medium integrated tannins and high acidity. Full body. Nice. About 93

  • I rarely drink wines young but I felt the need to try this one and was very pleasantly surprised. Great wine and expect it will only get better with some bottle age.

  • Purple fruit - dark cherry, currants, and a little blackberry. Smooth mid-palate with decent depth/concentration and a nice purity - medium body. Nice rich/vibrant flavors of dark berries, some spice, and a little chocolate. Solid finish but not overly long nor deep - I believe it could use some more time to open-up on the back-end which isn't a surprise in light of its youth. Decanted for two hours and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time but drinking pretty well after the decant. However, I believe another year or two should be beneficial to let it open-up some more and hopefully fill-out. Nonetheless, a nice vintage of this wine. In my opinion, the 86 rating from Lisa Perrotti-Brown of WA is a big miss. 93 for me at this stage but I expect another point or two with some more time. WA anticipated maturity 2019 to 2028. 100% cab.

  • 2016 Becklyn Lineup & Vertical (Calistoga): 2016 Becklyn lineup and vertical tasting of Becklyn NV 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016.

The 2016 Becklyn Moulds is the best vintage of this wine to date. An expressive and focused black cherry dominant core on the front end push, with the mid-palate depth downshifting a bit to a more reserved, medium bodied center and back end execution; finishes youthfully primary but with enough flavor to keep you coming back for another sip.

Certainly not as flamboyant as the 2016 Becklyn NV and MH served beside it, with a more controlled profile by comparison. A bit grippy on the back end at the moment. A wine that should show more of its full intentions in 2+ years. Still fairly accessible now, but some minimal short term cellaring will likely produce an even better payout. 93+ points with promise after 2021+.

  • 14.5% abv. Dark purple, long purple stained tears. Full and rich in mouth. Sweet, berries, milk chocolate, fresh cut flowers, fine smooth tannins. Very good fruit, well made wine, has decade plus of life ahead.
