  • 2014 blind tasting session. initially closed in the nose, then opened up more and more. Lots of power on the palate with oak spice that could mislead you into Pinot ally here. Light, Selosse style oxidation, good finish. Excellent.

  • Perfect Valentine's day champagne. Light and easy to drink. Tasty but doesn't require too much attention. I think this is champagne maker to watch.

  • This is from the December 2017 disgorgement. For context, 100% Chard, farmed biodynamic, grown in the Aube not all that far north of Chablis, in similar soils. That linkage is evident in tonight's bottle, which is one of the reasons why I am such a big time cheerleader for Dominque Laurent's wines--they speak of place and terroir. I know this wine is done in neutral cask but I would swear in this bottle these is some barrique signature. A toasty note wafts through the aromatic, along with a struck match quality, which in total gives the aromatic a unique signature. Like past bottles of this vintage of Eloquence, there is a marriage of lemon curd, so think a creamy bright lemon, married with a stony minerality. These flavors are what made me fall for this wine, and more broadly Dominique's wines, several years ago. It's why I buy so damn much of her range every year, as it quickly has become my #2 producer in my cellar behind Vilmart. There is green apple here, plus a kiss of tangerine, both a nod to the Chardonnay that is bright and pure. Simply a gorgeous bottle of Chardonnay bubbly, a vinous energy that is really hard to capture in a tasting note. These wines are thrilling, they tell a story and they're beautiful. Dominique, bravo.

  • Drank while celebrating my fiancé graduating PA school at JC Holdway in Knoxville. Excellent oyster shell and acidic backbone. The main note that stuck out through was a struck flint taste, really interesting. Going to wait till 2024 to check in on this again.

  • I've got two disgorgements of this millesime in my cellar, so decided I would try the December 2017 disgorgement this time (the other is April 2018). Unfortunately, when I opened this last night, I thought I sensed some TCA. Yet as the wine warmed up last night, it still showed the class of the previous bottles so I pressed on. We had a couple glasses and I stopped up the bottle to preserve the bubbles. Retasting again tonight, it seems to have cleaned up just fine and the TCA indicator is gone, with the wine showing some of the similar aromatics of past bottles with the broken/crushed rocks and some of the barrique from the elevage (I think the Elqouence is done 50% in old wood and 50% in enameled tank). The real power of this wine is in the palate. When cool, there is a citrus mix of lemon and tangerine. As the wine settles, warms and the CO2 relaxes, the stoniness of the past bottles comes through. For me, this slatey mineral impression has consistently thrilled me. Add yellow apple, tangerine, lemon pith and ginger to the rest of the flavor profile, then a little savory feel into the finish. The acidity on this bottle remains electric, a real pleasure to drink. Whether it's Resonance, Efflorescence, or Eloquence, I can't seem to drink or buy enough of the wines from Dominique Moreau. Just wines of brilliance.

  • First hour, natural, cider like. Not impressed. After that more Chablis like. Got better on the 2nd hour mark at room temperature. Needs food, time and ideally, not from the fridge.

  • Drank over a few days. Citrus, saline and floral, taut and energetic till the last day. Food wine.

  • Was lovely. Right mix of tart acid and minerals. Drank well on its own, then with good Chinese food and the last bit after a night in the fridge with a stopper. Big fan. Will buy more.

  • This poured very foamy into the glass. This is an extremely high acid wine with tart citrus and stoney base. It's definitely a food wine because of the aggressiveness and angular nature.

  • Some wines poured blind (Maison Cafe in Dana Point, CA): Disgorged 04/2018. This bottle showed a little leaner than the past bottles, especially when it was colder, but as it warmed, the flavor really shines through. Stony, citrusy lemon peel, green apple. Have about an ounce left of the wine, which at this point should be still...will try and post a final impression.

  • DG 04/2018
Toasted corn, lemon, lime cordial, some yoghurt, wet stones and gunpowder. Slightly reduced.
Creamy texture with very fine bubbles as is common with this producer. I find it sour and not very delicate. It's my first time with her Chardonnay and I think I prefer her elegant, perfumed and rich Pinot wines. Maybe it needs some more bottle age.

  • Great bottle but I was distracted and did not write anything down. I'm an idiot, it's FMIII WOTY and I can't scratch it out? Nope.

  • Paultacular Champagne Tasting (At Paul's Place): Disgorged December 2017, with zero dosage and 100% Chardonnay. This bottle showed as well as the previous one from December. Spot on fantastic. Intense citrus, lemon curd, along with some apple that is buried under the concentration. As it warms and becomes still, a creamy, stony character emerges that for me is the real attraction of the wine. This is on my WOTY list for 2019, and this bottle keeps it squarely there as the best Champagne I have had in 2019.

  • Opened this about an hour ago and I might just plow through it all before my wife walks in the door from work. Disgorged 02/2017, 100% Chard, no dosage. Aromatic of crushed rocks, Really unique flavors. Lots of apple, mixing with mint leaf, lemon curd and mineral. Some light brioche flavor adding a nice savory note to the wine, along with a little toasty thing, too. There is depth and fruit in this wine, and an absence of the tonic water quality that I sometimes find in no dosage wines. It finishes with a beautiful cut of minerality, lemon oil, jasmine, and mint. Stellar, and gonna put this on my WOTY list, the first wine to hit for 2019.....finishing the remainder of the bottle from yesterday, just a glass before dinner. I like the tangy acidity today, which has seemed to develop more intensity overnight. Some of the suave/seductive quality has faded from yesterday, with the wine adding more energy. I really like this wine, as it brings forth a real quality, a presence driven by the acidity, the texture and core flavor. Makes me think of a champagne that is more geeky in quality. Cool stuff.

  • Intense brioche and wheat on the nose with lime and nuts. Clean, bitter and precise palate with a broad medium finish. 91+

  • My first Courtin with 100% Chardonnay clearly shows its zero-dose pedigree, and although not quite as severe as other examples, it was a notable contrast to Courtin's pinot-dominant versions, which have atypical structure and depth. Bright and subtle with tart, apple and a lime finish with plenty of acidity to maintain balance. A solid wine that doesn't push the boundaries yet allows for simple fun.

  • Marguet and Marie-Courtin, plus a little Savart and some Still Reds, Too (My House In The South OC): Disgorged 04/18, 100% Chard, zero dosage. This is the first TN in CT on this wine. This came off a little sweet for me, according to my notes. Smoky aromatic, granny smith apple, lime, tangy and lightly stony. MY thought is that I didn't get my head around this when well enough, especially so as it was one of the final champagnes I tasted (of about 20). I have several bottles of it, as I went long on getting more prior to the event, given it is Chard from what is mainly a PN producer. Will open another soon and isolate it so I can get a better impression...retasted this morning from leftover bottle. Bright and lively, and it really complements the breakfast flavors we are doing very well, allowing the acidity to pop. Gentle pippin apple, with a good imprint of bright citrus. Glad I have several of these now for the cellar as this is a good drink. Also, the premise of retasting, with a different context (last night vs this morning) reinforces the importance of setting for tasting notes.
