I'm normally a huge fan of aligote from the burgundy region, but this one missed the mark for me. Honestly, I'm wondering if something was wrong with the bottle because it had an odd smell and taste-almost mildew like or musty.

This hot summer day called for a crisp Aligote and this bottle of Domaine Sylvain Langoureau was perfect. Pale to medium straw color with peaches and a dusty smoke on the nose, led to a very acidic lemon/lime punch in the mouth with a short finish. Not too much, but just enough to wake you up and cool you down on this hot day. Over the course of a couple hours, the acidity mellowed out and opened up to add some apple, and hints of both elderflower and vanilla, but still with its bright finish. Seems to have enough structure to hold up to some cellaring, that could calm down the initial acidic punch. Still, this is absolutely refreshing and perfect for summer!

Surprisingly this was not good. A ton of acidity with little or no "crispness" and complexity.

Domaine Sylvain Langoureau Cellar Visit and Tasting (Day 3, Visit 1) (Gamay, Saint-Aubin): Barrel tasting at the domaine. Lemon and lime throughout, clearly fresh, but also substantive for the level. Probably very good value.
