A bit softer and less acidic than expected, but still brilliant in its lightness and minerality. It will be interesting to follow how this wine continues to age over the coming years.

Minerality, acidity, crisp, multi-dimensional, stone fruit, yes, matchstick. I try and try other Chardonnays and often lose interest but almost never with Marcus's and especially the Richard's. Excellent.

6/20/23 Pop and pour. Drunk over two nights. Flinty on the nose with jasmine, chalk, lemon curd and citrus pith. Midweighted and finely detailed with a degree of intensity without weight. Lithe and graceful yet deep. A lovely understated wine that is still holding a little tight to the vest. Quite long
Day 2 this has gained a little depth, has more of a sense of minerality, with asian pear adding to the previous citrus dominated fruit notes. It's toothsome and intense yet with a sense of softness and grace. Finishes long yet simultaneously mouthwateringly fresh. Lovely

Little reductive on opening with stone, citrus pith, lemon curd, and jasmine. It's pretty tight on day one and opens up overnight. It's light to mid weighted, fresh and lithe yet detailed and deep. That said there is quiet intensity and substance here. More lemon pith, florals, and stone on the palate. This is a soil, floral, and acid driven wine with a gossamer texture conveying intensity without weight. I will hold my remaining bottles for a couple years and revisit. 92++

Tasty, tasty, tasty. Not unduly noteworthy on the nose, but man, does it go down easily ;^)
You get a hint of sea shell and lemon on the nose as it warms up in the glass, and then crisp and lively on the palate, with nice carry right through the finish. Not sure what Marcus might say, but for current consumption, this might be my favorite vintage for the Richard’s.

Good, solid, food friendly Chard. Reductive at fIrst. Needed air. Better at 55 or so than cold. Drinking well. No rush to drink it but I question it will improve much.

Last bottle. This is nice and light, but the fruit has faded a bit. Not sure how long this will age - for my tastes, this is in the zone and but I would drink up over the next few years.

I had the ‘16 Walter Scott X-Novo as well, and while that wine reminded me of Chablis, this is more like Meursault. Also slightly reductive on the nose, but this is more expansive and rounded on the palate.
Both drinking well, but very different.

Ann thought this was too oaky, but I enjoyed it. Some struck match shadings and solid acidity. Blind, I think I would guess white Burgundy of some sort.
Like the Durant, still primary at this point - I think both of these wines show a lot of potential for additional favorable development as they age. If I had this blind, I would be guessing Chablis for sure. Tart white fruit with good persistence right through the finish - this is the complete package here.

Wife opened last night but I didn’t try. Had a glass today (day 2) and this was outstanding. Lemon zest, oily, long finish, just really pulled together.

Light weight, easy and delicious. Tropical fruits, lemon zest, medium to light acidity. I don’t have a lot of comparison points, but as others have said, there is much less reductive notes on this wine compared to other Goodfellow’s I have had. Even though it’s light weight, it is full of flavor.

Very interesting how each vintage is so different from each other. I actually get a little tropical fruit on the nose here, but the palate is energetic, with lively acidity. I've liked this particular vintage since it was released, and this is another bottle that is drinking very well.

Very palate slate golden. Nose lemon, honeysuckle. Palate lovely, delicate and balanced citrus fruit with hint of vanilla, nice acidity especially when lightly chilled. Some stone fruit, rocky minerality.

Rieslingfan's note describes this well. I would have liked a little more acidity, but this was pretty solid. For me it shows better warmer, where some saline and rainwater start to show, and it feels better balanced.

Diam10. Light golden color. Nose light lemon, hint of vanilla toast. Palate some richness, light lemony citrus, some pithy flavor; with time some rocky minerality and chewy apricot/stone fruit intensity.
Nice depth and hits all the right notes for a new-world chard with an old-world soul, but I did wish for some more brightness/acidity. 90 pts

Interesting wine, and not at all what I expect from any US Chardonnay. This was lighter in weight, showing more minerality/salinity, and the fruit, while tropical in impression (pineapple, guava), was not ripe and sweet, but more tart and crisp, with a spritz of lemon thrown in for good measure. Good balance of acidity, that was very well integrated into the wine. It's drinking very well right now, and does not prompt me to consider cellaring it, as while I have no doubt it would handle some aging, I don't see that there is any need for it. Drink up, have fun.

I will start to sound like a broken record here, but I continue to be surprised with just how welcoming Marcus' 2016 version of this wine is. This is pure Chardonnay deliciousness - I'll go as far as to say that if you have the 2014 in the cellar, drink this vintage first and let that one age a bit. Really, really good right now - this may not have the structure to age, but when a wine tastes this good, who cares!

This one is right in my wheelhouse. Pale straw in color. Pleasant lemon/pineapple, wet limestone, saline and oyster shell aromas. The same lemon, pineapple and limestone on the palate with great minerality and a long medium acidic finish. Only downside is all that minerality and limestone fade after a while in the glass, leaving the last a bit flat. Bought two of these but am going to have to stock up because we could drink this all summer.

I'd love to know if Marcus dialed back the reductive wine making for this vintage - I just had a glass of the 2014, and the difference between this wine and the older one is striking.
While this does have a faint matchstick note on the nose, you almost have to look for it here, whereas with the '14 it rises from the glass and smacks you on the nose.
And while the '14 is still very primary, this wine feels relaxed on the palate and accessible. IMO, his most accessible vintage yet for what are still young wines.

Rather pale yellow and clear. Subdued nose. Round welcoming palate dominated by ripe honeydew, spice, and light tangerine. Very pleasant. Food friendly. Very good and good QPR.

Popped and poured. Pretty wine with a lemon zing, but not too tart. Crisp citrus, which rounded out after being left open for a few hours. Suggest giving this a good decant if drinking now. Good balance which will most likely improve over the next 3-5 years.

You get that typical matchstick on the nose, although in this vintage it doesn't seem as pronounced as in other years.
Seemingly open-knit on the palate - I don't think I've ever been as impressed with a young wine from Marcus as I am with this wine. The obvious question is will this have the aging potential of, say the '13 or '14.
Hard to say off this look, but for near-term drinking pleasure, this is a beauty.
