took an hour to show its stuff; complex and classy; a bit lean, with mineral and savory notes; the fruit was fading faster than the structure on day three

23 months after the prior: again, savory and elegant, and again with suggestions of ground white pepper. Harmonious, and generally friendly — especially when compared with the same vintage of porcupine hill, which was, by comparison, quite closed. This Home bottle was very enjoyable over three months. (We just ordered one Home 2019, after seeing it’s gone up substantially in price.)

This elegant and spicy wine was delicious tonight - not profound, but tasty. Light red in color; light in body; aromas of pie cherry, dried cranberry, underbrush, and eucalyptus. Flavors of raspberry, mashed strawberry, and dried herbs, with an elegant and somewhat crunchy finish. 12.3% alcohol. Decant two hours if drinking now.
Although I'm not usually a fan of the Home Vineyard, this held its own next to a 2017 Raphet Vougeot. The Rhys was a touch more fruity and less refined than the Raphet, but it was still in the same ballpark, if not near the same base. 93+ for now, with upside in 2023 or later.

This suffered from my ADD because I was still thinking about the Porcupine two wines ago. I know because I went back to revisit and then it was time to move to the next flight. Idiot. I wrote down "light fruit profile" and that was it.

July 2018 Rhys Visit--Taste The 2016s (Rhys Estate (At The Winery)): Pepper (100% whole cluster but this isn't stemmy, yet it does give this some of a pepper signature). Hard cherry candy, spicy with some kiwi. My notes say high-toned, which as I look back is a pretty meaningless term so my sense is that I got stuck in trying to describe the intensity and the edges in the wine. Red fruited, with rose water and some finishing tannin. I'd like to re-taste this again but I don't have this option so if you need some added perspective, look up Brig Campbell's note, as he tasted from the same bottle.

I’m thinking this just needs time, muted nose and palate. The underlying flavors are there and there is no heat from alcohol, but it needs to open up.

Savory, rather elegant, with hints of ground white pepper behind the dark fruit. Harmonious and very enjoyable over three nights.
