  • Medium golden color. The first whiff was throwing me off a little, it seemed more advanced than expected, it is positively tensing up with more air though. Very aromatic, with notes of ripe yellow pear, some lime too, mineraliry of wet stone, herbal notes of lindenblossom and yellow flowers, some spicy notes too. Medium-full bodied, with pretty high acidity and just a tiny touch of RS (maybe it's the ripe fruit). Long finish with nice layers building up. Very nice bottle and seems ready to go.

  • Another very nice bottle of this, although it showed a little quirky and got much better on day 2. A lot of minerality here and much less in terms of fruit. Excelletn freshness as always with this producer.

  • Lighter-medium golden color. First slightly reserved and not surprisingly a little austere, how this often shows. But with some air also showing some beautifully ripe pear, lime, spices, some licorice, there are also herbal notes and more than anything else a piquant streak of minerality leaving an impression of smoke, chalk and licking wet stone. It's medium+ bodied, but with excellent mid-palate persistence and depth without weight.... there is high acidity cutting through everything and just a hint of RS buffering and balancing everything. Long finish with again a deep mineral streak. As always a very unique expression of dry Mosel Riesling from this excellent producer. If you like bigger, rounder, riper expressions of Riesling, stay away from this. This is something for purists. I can't wait to see how this will show in a few years. (93+)

A good dry Riesling from the Mosel. Lime dominated with some smoky tones from the precise 2017 vintage. 90-91

  • I'm consistently fascinated by these wines but I can't say that I quite understand them yet. There is this crazy "cream of chalk" sort of thing that they have going on, which is unusual for Mosel riesling, IME. I wonder if this spends more time on its lees than normal. There are some penetrating herbal and mineral notes and white pitted fruit with lemon but these aren't fruity or driving wines. I followed this over a few days and it barely budged. I have this urge to try to figure these out.

  • Slightly reductive on the nose. Notes of petrol, honeydew melon, canteloupe, lime zest. Crisp and refreshing with nice slate minerality backbone.
