  • Well this was interesting.

I am very fond of Riojas, and this one did not disappoint.

Packed with oak, sweet leather and vanilla (without overpowering), plum and cherry on the nose!

There are discernible notes when you smell that you get on the palate, and for me it was tobacco, cinnamon and violet!

Mid finish with cream and pepper down the hatch, for a well balanced $33 wine. ¡Viva España!

  • Did a comparison between this 2014 and a 2009. 2014 was the clear winner, although it is still young and needs to shed some of its oak. Dark fruits and cherry evident. This will be a stunning wine in 5+ years when it integrates.

  • The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis) and strawberry jam. It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), prune, oak and black pepper. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

  • Perfect blend of old world and new world styles.

Burnt dandelion on the nose to start and dirty black cherries after that... decently long finish.

With an hour of breathing much more of an oily black olive and and plum skin experience.

  • Rebu en succ.
Encore bien corsé et boisé mais m`a paru
    plus équilibré...la carafe a aidée.
Cerises et bleuet avec du tabac.
    Très long.

  • This Rioja has bouquet of toasted almond, ripe red cherries, cumin, licorice and some leather. It does not have the usual minty, vanilla and chocolate notes associated with Rioja aging in American oak because it doesn’t have contact with that at all. It saw French and Hungarian oak instead. Palate is no different from the nose but it has a nice rounded structure with good balance between fruit, spices and polish tannins. Ready to drink now and it will age for up to 5-8 years. For me, I just wish the finish could be more extended after sometime in the glass. So, I wouldn’t recommend decanting it, just drink straight out of the bottle and it should offer a different perspective of Rioja.
