  • Paired with 2001 Ornellaia at a long overdue lunch at Bymark. I has this wine twice before about 6 years and 10 years ago and reflecting on my previous notes this wine is just getting better and better. As much as it opened up on the nose and palate right away, it kept pulling itself together over the two hours. Still very primary, dark red and black fruit, mineral support; focused palate, balanced and long finish. This was my last bottle so I will not know where it goes from here and it may deserve a higher rating yet.

  • The wine needed about 20 minutes to open up and it was clear sailing from there. Bright dark red fruit and forest floor. Tannins mostly resolved, nice intensity of the fruit and great Tuscan acidity. Intense but light on its feet. Drinks beautifully now.

  • Very much in line in line with the 2000 vintage but showing the differences in the vintages. Bright
dark red fruit, forest floor and mushrooms. Tannins still notable but in balance with the intensity of the fruit; Tuscan acidity is ever present. Intense but light on its feet. Very drinkable now but the secondary flavours are just beginning. It will get better. Try in two years.

  • An elegant wine with dried cherry, dustiness, and well integrated tannin.

  • 12/27/2007 Note:
A little tanic still, could have used more time, but overall fine.
Should be a little better in year or two.

    02/17/2008 Update:
Decanted this bottle. Much better after decanting than 2 months ago. Loss of Tanins and really smooths out the wine. Additional 2 pts added. Flavors are still nice, as noted by others, not a lot of fruit, more currant and tobbacoish, with some slight hints of chocolate.

Overall a GREAT Wine for the price.

  • Disappointing. Earthy, some spice (cinnamon), tobacco, black currant & blackberry, but overall lacking in fruit. Hollow on the midpalate. Astringent, harsh. Comes off as austere and off balance. Shortish finish.

  • Popped and poured. Medium ruby color to rim. Cedar and tobacco on the nose, with a note I'd best decribe as "raw beef". Palate of cedar, cranberry, a hint of dark chocolate and a slightly sour finish. Will update as the wine evolves.

  • This wine is 100% Sangiovese aged 100% in barrique. The wine comes across was very dense and dark, with loads of concentrated blackberry. It’s very tannic, slightly woody, and needs a few years to calm down.
